We have an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Lecturer (Teaching & Education) to join our School of Social Sciences in this Autumn term, on a part-time (28 hours, 0.8 FTE), fixed-term contract for 21 months. You will contribute to teaching and administration on a range of programmes (e.g. MSc Sustainable Cities, MSc International Development and Social Justice) and undertake scholarly activity in critical geography and/or development studies.You will have a PhD in Human Geography, Urban Studies, Development Studies or related fields (or close to completion), with teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You should be able to teach on urbanisation and development, with flexibility to teach across the subject area.As a Lecturer, you will be:

  • Teaching and convening the team-taught postgraduate modules ‘Urban Sustainability’ and ‘Critical Infrastructures for Sustainability – London Thames Field Trip’
  • Contributing to teaching on the postgraduate module ‘International Development and Social Justice’
  • Convening the MSc Sustainable Cities and MSc Geography
  • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations
  • Employing innovations in teaching and learning, to meet the learning needs of students, through the development of teaching materials, or appropriate teaching collaborations.
  • Undertaking and developing administrative and management roles and responsibilities within the School as agreed with the Head of School.
  • Maintaining up to date expertise in relevant subject areas.
  • Advancing knowledge in an appropriate way (which may include presentations, or publications relating to the practice of teaching and learning.)

As a Lecturer you will need to have:

  • A specialist knowledge in your subject area.
  • A PhD (or equivalent level) or be close to completion in the field.
  • Good developing track record of research and expertise.
  • Teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • An understanding of different teaching and learning methods and experience of working with students from a range of backgrounds.
