Lecturer (Learning, Teaching & Scholarship Track)We have an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer (Learning, Teaching & Scholarship Track) to contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by delivering, organising, and reviewing teaching, assessment and administration processes associated with undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and to undertake scholarship to enhance learning and teaching in the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing.We welcome applications from individuals who hold a Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent in related discipline with a growing reputation for scholarship within the subject area.The Undergraduate Medical School sits in the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing and is renowned for pioneering teaching methods and superb facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate study. The School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing is part of the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences.Job PurposeTo contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by delivering, organising, and reviewing teaching, assessment and administration processes associated with undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and to undertake scholarship to enhance learning and teaching in the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing.This posts reports to the Head of the SoMDN and works in partnership with the Head of the UMS.Main Duties and Responsibilities:1. Make a substantial contribution to delivering and leading a range of teaching, supervision, and assessment activities for the development of NHS staff involved in teaching medical students, particularly within the postgraduate taught programme in Health Professions Education.2. To continue to improve the evidence-based training programme for NHS staff involved in the education of undergraduate medical students.3. Take a lead in the on-going development and design of the undergraduate medical curriculum in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment.4. Develop effective approaches to the use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback, and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provision.5. Ensure an inclusive and evidence-based approach to facilitating learning in a range of face to face and potentially online delivery formats such as tutorials, lectures, problem-based learning, that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.6. To provide NHS staff support, development, and training activities in these learning modalities.7. Develop effective working relationships with students and, in partnership with relevant student services teams, respond appropriately to the diverse range of learning approaches and learner needs.8. Develop a growing portfolio of scholarship outputs and activities by undertaking methodologically rigorous, educationally relevant, enquiries into student learning and disseminate evidence to enhance your own, and potentially others’, teaching practices.9. Attend and participate in appropriate seminars and conferences to support research-led teaching and scholarship in Health Professions Education and related fields.10. Develop relationships with external stakeholders in support of knowledge exchange, public understanding, and appropriate forms of outreach such as widening access.11. Participate in local, and potentially overseas, activities associated with student recruitment (e.g. open days), orientation and induction and other School and University initiatives such as support for student transitions, employability, and student mobility as appropriate.12. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.13. Undertake any other reasonable duties related to enhancement of the learning environment in the undergraduate medical school in alignment with NES and University priorities.14. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan.Knowledge/QualificationsEssentialA1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent in related discipline with a growing reputation for scholarship within the subject area.Desirable:B1 A higher degree in education.B2 Other educational credentials such as FHEA, etc.SkillsEssentialC1 Track record of scholarship and development and delivery of teaching, and proven ability to develop and devise teaching programmes, techniques and methods.C2 Extensive breadth and depth of knowledge in the specialist subject/discipline to develop teaching programmes/methodologies/learning support.C3 Proven ability to design, review and enhance multiple learning, teaching, and assessment programmes.C4 Ability to communicate complex or conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding and developing early career academic colleagues.C5 Continuing engagement with current practice and developing knowledge.C6 Ability to contribute to broader leadership and management activities along with an awareness of current and future priorities of the University/College/School/Service.C7 Demonstrated commitment to open research, as appropriate to the discipline, through open data, open code, open educational resources, and practices that support replication.C8 Proven commitment to supporting the career development of colleagues and to other forms of collegiality appropriate to the career stage.DesirableD1 Experience of delivery of education-focused taught higher degrees.ExperienceEssentialE1 Experience and achievement in the relevant field reflected in an expanding personal academic portfolio.E2 Experience of developing and demonstrating teaching and research methods and devising models, approaches, techniques, critiques, and methods.Terms and ConditionsSalary will be Grade 8, £48,350 – £56,021 per annum.This post is full time and open ended.The successful candidate will be enrolled onto the University’s Early Career Development Programme (ECDP).
