Library Assistant (Clerical Officer Level) – Full-Time, 12 Month Specified Purpose ContractDublin, IrelandFull TimeLibrary Assistant (Clerical Officer Level) – Full-Time, 12 Month Specified Purpose ContractThe Dublin Dental University Hospital is seeking to recruit a Full-Time Library Assistant to join our Library team on 12 month specified purpose contract. DDUH Library provides services to support all DDUH activities for undergraduates and postgraduates students and members of staff. The overall purpose is to assist the Librarian in the provision of excellent services in line with DDUH values.The position reports to and is accountable to the Librarian or any other authorised designated officer that the responsibility is delegated to by the Librarian. This post is aligned with the Grade III Clerical Officer HSE salary scales.Outline of Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe role of Library Assistant as part of a small Library Team (3 staff members) is to support DDUH Library users during academic terms and throughout the calendar year.Key attributes of a successful Library Assistant are:An interest in DDUH library users, their needs and the ability to work with users at all levelsInitiative and enthusiasm, including a willingness to contribute ideas to all aspects of library workAbility and willingness to learn new skills in a constantly changing environmentResearch, analytical skills, good communication, detailed orientated and proficient with systemsKey tasksThe role of the Library Assistant includes but is not limited to:Answer queries from students and staff in an approachable, friendly and timely manner, in person and via e-mailOperate the library IT system (Liberty) including loans, returns, renewals and reservationsAssist library users in finding resources in all formatsHelp students and staff with computer-related and printing issuesSending of journal alert e-mailsCreating and managing new DDUH Research publications records (Endnote & Liberty)Shelving, repairing and sorting of library materialAssist with collection maintenanceAssist with document delivery servicesSupervise user activities in the libraryCommunicate with the library team about all issues arisingEnsure all Dublin Dental University Hospital policies are adhered toAssist with the development of the library’s servicesPerform ad hoc office tasks and assist with projects as requiredAttend all staff training and meetings as requiredPerform such other duties appropriate to the office as may be assigned to them by the LibrarianQualifications, Experience & Person SpecificationIn order to be considered for this position, candidates must have:Achieved a good standard of education, and ideally possess at a minimum a third level degree qualificationIntermediate to Advanced IT skills, including MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint) and the internetDemonstrate an interest in a career in Library and Information ServicesAbility and willingness to learn new skillsExperience of working in a front-line customer service role and demonstrate excellent customer service skillsExcellent organisational skillsAccuracy and attention to detail in their workAbility to effectively deal with multiple tasks simultaneously and to manage deadlinesExcellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oralHigh levels of motivation, proactivity, adaptability and flexibilityAbility to work on own initiative and to work well in a teamIt is desirable that candidates will also have:Relevant experience of working in a health sciences or academic library or information environment within the last 2 yearsA working knowledge of library services and resourcesWorking Hours35 hours per week. Working hours will vary and depend on library opening hours. Regular evening working hours apply.
