We are seeking an enthusiastic Locum Consultant to join our award winning Diabetes and Endocrinology Team on a fixed term 12 month post.
Additional posts have come as part of the expansion of the medical workforce in preparation for the move to the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) and include opportunities to work in community settings and also the inpatient bed base.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting time to join the Trust and the successful candidate will be able to shape the future model of diabetes and endocrinology care. Experienced candidates who are interested in becoming the service lead for the Diabetic and Endocrinology service are welcome to apply as are more junior candidates who wish to focus on developing their clinical expertise. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with an interest in service development to support the roll out of new diabetic technologies.

The Diabetes & Endocrinology services sits within the ambitious and welcoming Primary Care, Community and Therapies group which has direct and indirect links with place and primary care colleagues empowering clinicians to work proactively together to impact health inequalities for our population.
Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) is an integrated care organisation with a budget of approximately £600million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.

Person Specification
Qualifications:
Essential
- Medical qualification (eg MBBS etc)
- MRCP or equivalent
Desirable
- Entry on the Specialist Register in Diabetes and Endocrinology
- Higher Degree
Clinical Experience:
Essential
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Diabetes and Endocrinology
Desirable
- Special interest that complements the existing consultants
Management and Administrative Experience:
Essential
- Ability to plan strategically and to exercise sound judgements when faced with conflicting pressures.
Clinical Effectiveness
Essential
- Experience of conducting clinical audit
Teaching and Training experience:
Essential
- Ability to teach clinical skills to medical and nursing staff and other disciplines.
Desirable
- Formal training in teaching
Research, Innovation and Service Improvement Experience:
Essential
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
Desirable
- Knowledge and experience of the application of information technology to Diabetes and Endocrinology
- Publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals in the last five years.
- Evidence of having undertaken original research
