This position is based in Ndjamena and reports to Head of Supply Chain or the designate.

THE ROLE

To collect, analyse and report on information to maximise efficiency of the logistics operations and activities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Supply Chain, the Logistics Officer will undertake the following tasks, covering all aspects of warehousing management and operations:

  • Manage logistics operations and ensure effective transport management, including all logistics assets, to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of WFP cargoes;
  • Ensure the integrity of transport information, including the tracking of goods in WFP’s corporate systems (LESS);
  • In conjunction with the transport manual, draw up the tonnage allocation table and carry out an analysis on a quarterly basis.
  • Prepare and submit reports requested by Regional Office (RB), meeting set deadlines
  • Ensure that accurate and comprehensive accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning
  • Analyse the distribution plan vs stock positions with a view to closing gaps in different sub offices, while keeping an eye on BBDs (Best Before Date: date on which Batch expires)/TDDs (Terminal Disbursement Date) Grant
  • Ensure the implementation of exports to the sub-region and prepare the transit file and ensure its follow-up
  • Ensure that all staff are properly trained and identify training needs for staff to keep them relevant with organisational changes
  • Ensure coordination and technical supervision of sub-office logistical colleagues to achieve expected results;
  • Ensure sub office teams are adequately guided following WFP corporate guidelines and procedures
  • Supervise the staff of the operations unit;
  • Respect the United Nations Code of Conduct at all levels of WFP operations.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: Advanced University degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management or other related field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses. Certification in humanitarian logistics is a plus.

Experience: Typically one or more years of postgraduate professional experience in Logistics relevant to the role

Desired experiences for entry into the role:

  • Experience managing humanitarian logistics operations in a complex environment is desirable
  • Experience in leading a team in an operational set up.
  • Experience in report writing.

Language: Fluency (level C) in both French and English language.
