UNICEF’s Division of Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) works with the private sector through UNICEF National Committees, country offices and HQ divisions to expand strategic engagement with the private sector and advocate for child rights. As UNICEF shifts into a more agile organization able to deliver on ambitious targets defined in its Strategic Plan 2022-2025, PFP is strengthening its Knowledge Management (KM) function by sustaining foundational KM work while strengthening the strategic use of KM for continuous improvement. A key component of strategic Knowledge Management is the capture of cases and lessons learned from key projects and initiatives as well as the synthesis of knowledge in the form of guidelines, checklists and standard processes that can help make the work of the Division more agile and responsive to the needs of its stakeholders, including country offices and National Committees.

PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENT
We are seeking an experienced Knowledge Management professional with excellent analytical, communication (written and verbal), synthesis and facilitation skills to support the capture of cases and lessons. In particular, and under the supervision of the Knowledge Management Manager, and in coordination with the KM team and different technical teams, the Consultant will help document key projects and cases that demonstrate the impact of UNICEF’s work with the private sector both in raising income and generating influence to pursue and protect the rights of children around the world. He/She will also organize, facilitate, document and synthesize the results of lessons learned exercises on strategic private sector engagements and initiatives upon the request of management and technical teams. In addition, he/she will support in the synthesis of existing knowledge and resources for conversion into checklists, template, standard processes and procedures, and frequently asked questions.
OBJECTIVE
The role’s objective is to surface information and lessons from experience and craft knowledge products in various formats that management can consider to continuously improve the Division’s ways of working.
MAJOR TASKS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED
For each project case to be documented:

Draft, revise and finalize project cases in written format based on interviews with relevant teams and colleagues and review of secondary sources.

Prepare synthesized and repackaged versions—in 2-page text format, (info)graphic/visual format, and short powerpoint deck—of the project cases.
For each project to conduct a Lessons Learned Exercise on:

Assist in completing a Lessons Learned Exercise scoping document that will serve as the basis for the Lessons Learned Exercise.

Schedule interviews and/or group reflection sessions with relevant colleagues.
-
Facilitate lessons learned interviews and discussions and prepare lessons learned notes based on this.
-
Synthesize lessons learned interviews and draft a Lessons Learned Synthesis Report. Revise and finalize the report based on comments and feedback.

Prepare a 2-page summary of the lesson learned report.
For each knowledge product synthesizing information and resources in different formats:

Review and analyze existing resources as provided by the focal point
-
Gather additional information on gaps that may exist
-
Draft the knowledge product which may take on the form of checklists, template, standard processes and procedures, and frequently asked questions

Revise and finalize the knowledge product based on comments and feedback of the focal point and relevant stakeholders.
Responsibilities of the Consultant:

The consultant will use their own equipment; laptops, microphones, software and other accessories that may be required for this task.

The consultant will not give the content/material or any part thereof, to any third party without the written permission of UNICEF. All components will be the property of UNICEF, and the consultant will not share the same with anyone else.

The consultant will not put their own name or logo/emblem on the content / final product. The only organization branding will be UNICEF, if required.

Regular liaison with manager and content owners and any related units.
Responsibilities of UNICEF:

UNICEF will provide all details pertaining to the activity and the requirements

UNICEF will orient the consultant on UNICEF’s branding guidelines

UNICEF will share the documents and specifications with the consultant as he/she becomes available and will coordinate the timely delivery of work
DELIVERABLES
Full case write-up
- Finalized text write-up of between 5-10 pages, with images and graphs as relevant, based on interviews and secondary data sources
Synthesized/repackaged case
- Finalized synthesis of full case in text format of between 2-3 pages
- Infographic/visual summary of full case prepared using visual tools such as Canva. Output should be print and web-ready.
- Summary of full case in powerpoint format following a standard powerpoint template with 5-10 slides.
Lessons Learned Interviews
- Scheduling of lessons learned interviews and meetings
- Actual facilitation of the interview session with individuals or with teams of up to 8 colleagues
- Preparation of notes from the interviews following a standard format
Lessons Learned Synthesis Report
- Synthesis Report consolidating all lessons learned interview results and other sources, with each report ranging from 10-20 pages excluding annexes.
Lessons Learned summary
- Summary of the Lessons Learned Synthesis Report in 2-3 pages of text both in Word format for commenting and in Canva format for the finalized version
Checklists or templates
- 1 to 3 pages in Word format containing a checklist or a standard template for performing a standard work of the Division
Write up of processes and procedures
- Documentation of an existing or a new process in written format which may range from 3 to 5 pages in Word format
Frequently asked questions
- Write up of questions and corresponding answers in Word format of up to 30 questions

TRAVEL
No travel is envisaged for this consultancy. However, the consultant might be required to travel outside their duty station for specific events in which case payment of travel costs, DSA, etc. will be paid by UNICEF, and will be agreed upon between the supervisor and the consultant prior to travel and will be reimbursed on actuals.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Education:

First-level university degree (Bachelors degree or higher) in knowledge management, business management, international studies, adult education or any other relevant field of discipline.
Experience:
-
Minimum of three years of progressive experience in the following fields: knowledge management, communication, research, learning, production of knowledge products, or relevant areas is required.

Experience in workshop and interview facilitation is required.
-
Experience in documenting cases/experiences/lessons learned is required.
-
Experience in research and analysis would be an asset.
-
Experience in visual repackaging and graphic design would be an asset.
-
Working experience within UNICEF or other UN entities, familiarity with the work of UNICEF National Committees and/or private sector fundraising would be an asset.
Language:
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
