Job Description:

The Low-CI Hydrogen Director plays a critical role in supporting low-CI hydrogen projects that are expected to receive a high level of customer, public, governmental and NGO scrutiny from project execution through to reaching commercial on-stream. The primary responsibility of the Low-CI Hydrogen Director is to effectively lead and coordinate across the organization to address the threats and opportunities that are created by this greater level of scrutiny. The secondary responsibility is to ensure commercial readiness for an orderly transition of the asset ownership into the regional business management function of which this role will assume full commercial ownership post on-stream. This will be an on-site role.

Job Duties:

The Low-CI Hydrogen Director is accountable for the following activities during the development, execution and commercial ownership transition of a low-CI hydrogen project:

  • Provide regional leadership and coordination support to all government, permitting, community, and key stakeholder outreach activities as required during project development and execution.
  • Be the lead on identifying, negotiating, and managing government funding agreements with support from other internal functions as required (ie. gov. relations, business development, tax, finance, etc).
  • Provide input to business development from a local commercial perspective into project scope, contract negotiations, project structuring and financial modeling – including government incentives and regulatory credit revenues streams.
  • Provide all necessary asset management support for large projects through construction, commissioning, and commercialization to enable an orderly transition of the facility into the business management function.
  • Taking ownership of all commercial responsibilities post on-stream including the P&L and full asset management. Lead the team accountable for the day-to-day optimization of the facility operation to maximize revenues while ensuring to meet customer and governmental support contractual obligations.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively to represent Air Products Canada in regional and national organizations and forums. Serve as an authoritative representative to internal and external audiences on technical, regulatory, policy, and market conditions that promote production and end-use markets for low-carbon hydrogen.
  • In addition, this role will provide local leadership to H2fM growth initiatives and commercial oversight of H2fM government grants/agreements ensuring consistent methods/messages.

Minimum Qualifications:

The position requires an individual with extensive commercial experience, a strong technical background, and an overall understanding of large complex operations. The specific skills required include:

  • 20+ years of business management or large facility operations management experience,
  • Track record of identifying and successfully pursuing new opportunities, leading negotiations, writing proposals, structuring complex deals.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canada’s regulatory & political landscape driving actions for decarbonization
  • Must have the ability to develop a solid understanding of the technical aspects of hydrogen feedstock sourcing, production, distribution and fueling in order to credibly communicate the advantages of hydrogen to key stakeholders.
  • Experience leading and influencing diverse teams of technical, commercial, and financial professionals.
  • Experience with any of; large capital project development, environmental permitting, and/or regulatory compliance activities including directly working with government agencies considered an asset.
  • Excellent leadership, influencing, and interpersonal skills,
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills including the ability to use a variety of presentation platforms.
  • Ability to discuss and present highly technical material effectively to non-technical audiences.

Education and Licensing Requirements:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Finance, Business, Engineering . MBA preferred
