Job ScopeReporting to the Financial Reporting Manager, the team of four Management Accountants are business partners to the budget holders of the Society and support the organisation to make informed decisions by providing meaningful analysis of financial data on both a regular and ad-hoc basis.   • To build and maintain rapport with the Society’s budget holders.
  • Analyse financial performance and contribute to business planning.
  • Challenge on efficiency and determine how value can be added.
  • Communicating complex financial information to finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Advising and training colleagues on good budget management.

Management Accounts, Budgeting and Forecasting

  • To take responsibility for the inclusion and transaction of regular month end accruals, prepayments, adjustments and charges to ensure a timely and accurate close of accounts.
  • To prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and ensure these reconcile to the data contained within the chart of accounts.
  • To work with the Financial Reporting Manager, to provide accurate and timely annual budgets and quarterly forecasts for all sections of the Society.
  • To manage the Society’s funds, ensuring the income and costs are charged accurately and in line with the terms of grant agreements or other contracts.

Systems and processes

  • Continuously seeking to improve systems and processes, including assisting in activities associated with projects to implement new systems and/ or processes.
  • To support the Finance Team to improve the financial reporting capabilities of the Society, including in relation to restricted funds and donor requirements.
  • To produce procedure notes for new processes developed within the finance section.

General

  • To prepare reconciliations of key accounts on a monthly/quarterly basis as appropriate and investigate and resolve issues as necessary.
  • To maintain the Society’s nominal ledger and take responsibility for ensuring nominal codes are allocated and used correctly.
  • To take responsibility for the filing, storage and archiving of all material relating to Management accounts, including all nominal ledger journals.
  • To provide necessary support to the Financial Reporting Manager in the delivery of section objectives, including providing cover within the Finance team and providing information required as part of external and internal audit reviews.
  • To carry out any other ad-hoc duties as determined by the Financial Reporting Manager or Head of Finance.

Key Knowledge and Skills RequiredEssential

  • CCAB qualified or part qualified equivalent with significant experience
  • Experience of management accounting, budgeting, project accounting and working in a multi-funder environment
  • Autonomous and proactive approach to working and robust analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance users both in writing and orally
  • Ability to work accurately and to deadlines, including under pressure and to work co-operatively with others in a team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills

Desirable

  • Experience in the not-for-profit/ charity sector and knowledge of fund accounting
  • Experience of working in external or internal audit
  • Knowledge of Xledger
