Together we catalyze business leadership to drive policy ambition and accelerate the transition to a zero-carbon economy.We are seeking a highly motivated energy expert with a passion for accelerating corporate climate leadership to join the Systems Transformation Team. The Systems Transformation team develops and directs overall strategy, coordination and execution of the coalition’s programs, activities and collective corporate actions linked to specific systems. We work across energy supply, such as power, as well as demand, including industry, buildings, transport.A key component of attaining a global emissions pathway commensurate with the ambition of the Paris Agreement is decarbonizing energy supply. The decarbonization of the power sector in particular is one of the key drivers of emissions reductions to 2030 and beyond, and foundational to reducing emissions from other end-use sectors. Energy is an exciting area to be working within as part of the We Mean Business Coalition as we build out and leverage our partnerships and portfolio to speed up the deployment of clean solutions and technologies that will allow us to phase out fossil fuels.The Systems Transformation team also leads on the Fossil to Clean Campaign, launched in 2023, which is a global movement of businesses going from fossil fuels to clean solutions. The campaign brings in not only our sector-specific work, but also that of the entire organization. The next few years are focused on driving policy change at international and national levels and business action to accelerate the shift from fossil to clean. As part of this work, the Energy Manager is responsible for ensuring the energy portfolio is aligned with Fossil to Clean and contributing to the outcomes of the campaign.   • Familiarity with Salesforce a plus

Experience

  • ≥8 years of professional experience focused on the energy sector
  • Master’s degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience
  • Established network of contacts in the energy field
  • Excellent understanding of energy supply and good knowledge of one or more end-uses such as transport, built environment, industry, with an interest in learning about the others
  • Direct experience in power sector decarbonization is a distinct advantage
  • Demonstrated knowledge of energy policy and policy processes
  • Practical experience of working with business, government or NGOs to promote, develop and/or coordinate business-led solutions for climate change
  • Experience working within or closely with multinational companies on energy related topics or sustainability

The Manager reports to the Director, Energy and will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of the organization’s energy strategy, Fossil to Clean campaign and the delivery of other KPIs in the Systems Transformation team. Working with and through WMBC coalition partners, the manager will:

  • Manage the granting process for projects across energy, reviewing proposals to ensure applications align with WMBC strategy, tracking project progress, and ensuring mutual expectations are met in a timely and professional manner
  • Scan the horizon for shifts in the business environment that will impact strategy and funding choices
  • Maintain a mapping of relevant initiatives across WMB coalition partners and beyond, identifying opportunities to work together and develop strategic partnerships for WMB
  • Working with the Director, ensure a shared understanding of priority levers in the energy system and ways in which WMBC can best add value, updating the coalition’s energy strategy and focus areas as needed
  • Collaborate with WMB communications to develop system-level narrative for net zero energy systems
  • Collaborate with WMB policy team on identifying energy-related policy priorities at the domestic level in key regions and mobilizing business support
  • Represent WMB in various coalitions and initiatives to support collective impact, promote alignment of activities and influence strategy
  • Provide research, data and analytical support in the areas of market innovation, business action and domestic policy and regulation
  • Develop talking points, briefings and presentations for events and speaking opportunities
