This position will appeal to a self-motivated individual who is comfortable in an academic finance setting and able to work in a distributed environment with colleagues in Newfoundland and Labrador, throughout Atlantic Canada, and nationally.ABOUT ACENETEstablished in 2003, ACENET is a consortium of universities and community colleges in Atlantic Canada, with Memorial as its lead institution. In addition to the consortium, it operates a federally incorporated not-for-profit organization called ACENET Solutions Inc. Through both of these, we provide researchers in academia and industry with Digital Research Infrastructure (DRI) resources, tools, software, training, and support. Our mission is to help our clients use these advanced computing platforms to accelerate discovery and innovation, helping Atlantic Canada to reach the forefront of research and development. ACENET is a regional partner of the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, the organization responsible for coordinating the infrastructure and activities required for DRI in Canada.Learn more about working with ACENET at https://ace-net.ca/careers.html ( )DUTIESReporting to the Chief Executive Officer, ACENET, the Manager, Finance and Administration will be a key part of ACENET’s Executive Team and work closely with our operational staff. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the financial and administration requirements for ACENET and supporting its business development initiatives. The successful applicant will be the central coordinator and liaison for ACENET’s partner universities and co funders with respect to budgeting, forecasting, funding agreements, financial reporting, and administrative matters. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with university and funding program administrative, financial, and human resource policies and procedures; ensuring compliance with the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act and Canada Revenue Agency requirements; operational monitoring, including control and reporting of financial status and forecasting future needs; developing, recommending, implementing, and tracking financial and administrative policies and procedures; providing financial stewardship through auditing expenditures; tracking and reporting capital, operations, and maintenance costs and ensuring appropriate allocation against funding sources; overseeing non-technical aspects of procurement and asset management; leading financial reporting to ACENET’s federal and four provincial funders, university partners, board of directors, and other stakeholders; preparing annual budgets and contributing to strategic initiative submissions; assisting in developing grant proposals or contracts (with focus on budgetary aspects) and ongoing contract management; supporting administrative aspects of ACENET’s training, outreach, and business development initiatives; representing Atlantic Canada on national DRI finance committees and working groups; and performing other related duties as required.QUALIFICATIONSExperience (3-5 years) in financial and administrative work; graduation from a college or university program in business administration or accounting is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered. The successful applicant is expected to be a motivated self-starter with excellent organizational, analytical, and verbal and written communication skills. The incumbent will work collaboratively, embrace challenges, and be a problem solver who can come up with creative solutions when needed. Knowledge and experience with Excel, Google Workspace and financial reporting systems; university finance and administration; general contract development and management; Atlantic provincial and national funding organizations; developing and implementing administrative protocols; human resources management and procurement are essential for this role. A master’s degree in business administration and/or a professional accounting designation, completed or in pursuit, are assets. ACENET’s CEO is located in Nova Scotia. The incumbent must therefore be able to work with minimal supervision and be comfortable with a long-distance reporting structure.
