The incumbent will ensure business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed/delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will be a superb writer and strong project manager, with experience writing in different voices for a range of internal and external audiences.Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Contributes to the end-to-end communications process (communications strategy, development, and delivery) on behalf of the business line for internal and external communications.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor and strategic communications partner and develops strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to further the Bank’s communications objectives.
  • Works closely with business partners, senior management and other key stakeholders to develop, design, write, edit and effectively execute engaging internal and external communications ensuring alignment with GBM, Global Communications and Enterprise strategy, plans and priorities.
  • Manages communications requirements and delivery/distribution across all channels (e.g., newsletters, Sharepoint, emails, town halls, events, office screens, social posts, etc.).
  • Supports Town Halls, virtual calls and other events including drafting agenda, presentation materials and speaking notes, coordinating logistics, and moderating events live to ensure seamless execution.
  • Manages broader enterprise-wide communications initiatives, such as planning documents, calendars, trackers, and regular newsletters.
  • Provides support on other priorities as needed.
  • Contributes to the effective functioning of the GBM Communications team by fostering effective working relationships across the team and with various business line and corporate function contacts.
  • Keeps their finger on the pulse of current issues and events to support relevant and timely thought leadership and commentary.
  • Staying current and implementing communications best practices to ensure consistent and effective message delivery.
  • Actively sharing knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members and actively participating and contributing to touch bases and team meetings, encouraging the generation of new ideas and approaches, and recommending process improvements.
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related discipline; or a post-graduate certificate in Public Relations is an asset – or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years working experience in a communications role in a complex, dynamic, knowledge-based environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Financial institution experience, along with understanding of capital markets and corporate & investment banking is an asset.
  • A demonstrated ability to drive internal and external engagement across a large employee base and amongst a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated expertise in planning and implementing strategic communications programs (internal and external) including seeking, creating and championing creative communications solutions.
  • Media relations is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience communicating via print, web, visual media and emerging communication platforms; social media experience an asset – with demonstrated experience in leveraging the latest communication vehicles to effectively communicate to employees.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment, with an ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Discrete ability to recognize and appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Comfort briefing, supporting, and engaging with senior leaders.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with colleagues across a range of functions.
  • An ability to solve problems and work in a matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to take on tasks outside of core responsibilities.
  • A commitment to curiosity, and professional and personal growth.
  • Design, desktop publishing and video experience is an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of business-related software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Fluency in a second language (Spanish/French) is an asset.
