The person will be responsible for the administration and compliance of the SOX 404 framework in EMEA, the establishment of sound internal control processes, the introduction of best practices covering balance sheet reconciliations, and assisting with the global internal control projects. The role will report to the head of Global Financial Control in Chicago who reports in to the Corporate Controller in Chicago. The role will also be responsible for the escalation of material internal control breaks or issues throughout the EMEA region. Incumbent conducts performance management and career development processes, and staffing and disciplinary actions. This role is balanced between high level operational execution and development, and execution of strategic direction of business function activities.The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Oversee all aspects of the assigned SOX program activities including quarterly certifications progress reporting.
  • Assist with the administration and maintenance of the Quarterly Account Ownership.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external Auditors, business partners and the Internal Control Testing Team
  • Present KPIs and indicators of annual compliance health to be reported to the Controls Committee, Disclosure Committee, Audit Committee, and steering committees.
  • Operate independently; has in-depth technical knowledge of regulatory SOX compliance.
  • As subject area expert, provide comprehensive, in-depth consulting and leadership to team and partners at a high technical level.
  • Carry out activities that are large in scope, cross-functional and technically difficult.
  • Conduct performance management and career development processes, provide input for staffing and disciplinary actions and provide hands-on training to staff.
  • Develop periodic goals, organize the work, set short-term priorities, monitor all activities, and ensure timely and accurate completion of the work.
  • Develop and/or provide input and support to budget management process.

Skills / Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in the management of applicable compliance programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to build and manage relationships with partners at all levels.
  • Ability to persuade and influence at all levels;
  • Proven ability to identify proactively and problem solve using own initiative
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to frequent change
  • Leadership and organizational skills required to develop periodic goals and to manage and motivate team members towards the goals set.
  • Excellent project management experience with leadership in organizing, planning and executing compliance procedures from vision through implementation across multiple internal reporting and organizational lines
  • Extensive experience working in public accounting or corporate with an emphasis on financial services industry
  • Bachelor’s degree, Accounting or Finance preferred
  • Master’s degree in accounting or finance a plus
  • Qualified Accountant, Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor a plus
