Join our team and chart your own uniquely United career journey!Key Responsibilities:In this role, you will provide guidance to Inflight Services and the enterprise on the application and interpretation of the Flight Attendant Agreement. You will regularly advise on investigations, discipline, settlements, and other matters involving our flight attendants. As a representative on the Dispute Resolution Committee, you will support the grievance process by representing the company with the union to resolve outstanding Notices of Dispute (grievances). You will also participate in preparing witnesses for arbitration, and serving on the System Board of Adjustment. Additionally, you will assist with the negotiation and implementation of the Flight Attendant Agreement and other projects as directed by the Managing Director of Labor Relations – Inflight & International.

  • Has knowledge and an understanding of unions and labor environments
  • Drafts grievance responses, position statements, disciplinary letters, settlements, and other related correspondence
  • Conducts dispute resolution responsibilities with employee groups represented by CBA(s)
  • Prepares contract language, letters relating to industrial relations activities, and training, and monitors the interpretation and application of contracts.
  • Supports policy awareness on initiatives related to labor and employment
  • Supports materials for negotiations with union representatives
  • Supports compliance for represented employee group(s) for routine cases
  • Helps execute activities surrounding arbitration dockets and serves as company representative at arbitration hearings, mediation, and other dispute resolution processing
  • Supports internal team and business units in dispute resolution process
  • Communicates and develops positive relationships with local union officials

QualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in labor relations, legal, or employee relations
  • Ability to interpret and administer collective bargaining agreements
  • Comprehensive understanding of unions, labor environments, and employment law
  • Ability to maintain positive labor/management relations
  • Ability to manage the grievance process
  • Strong negotiation, consensus-building, analytical thinking, and communication skills
  • 30% travel or as needed
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • 5+ years airline operations experience and RLA (Railway Labor Act) experience
  • Strong LR or Union background
  • Strong analytical and writing skills
