Winnipeg, ManitobaThe (MHCA) is seeking to hire a Manager of Communications to support the VP, Policy and External Relations. The Manager of Communications will assist in enhancing the organization’s public engagement and communications, with a strong focus on writing, content creation and social media management. Reporting to the VP of Policy and External Relations, you will help develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with organizational objectives. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the creation and management of various communication channels and materials, ensuring consistent messaging across platforms. You will also play a key role in maintaining the organization’s public presence, leveraging digital and traditional media to enhance visibility. Additionally, you will support the preparation of essential communications and marketing materials, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the organization’s outreach and engagement efforts.Key Responsibilities:
Writing and Communications:

  • Responsible for preparing and managing all MHCA, WorkSafely and WorkForce communications, via website, social and traditional media platforms; annual reports; annual directory/rental rates guide; quarterly Road2Growth magazine; marketing content; member communications; digital and editorial materials.
  • Work closely with MHCA Marketing & Communications Coordinator for timely preparation and distribution of MHCA, WorkSafely and WorkForce communications, social media, website content and updates, marketing and event materials.
  • Support MHCA’s brand through assisting with communication strategies, ensuring the organization’s message is consistent, prominent and widely shared.
  • Provide support to all MHCA, WorkSafely and WorkForce events, including media messaging.

External and Internal Relations and Public Advocacy:

  • Assist in drafting press releases, media statements and briefing materials for media events and inquiries.
  • Monitor media coverage of industry trends and public policy relevant to MHCA’s work, providing insights and summaries to the VP.
  • Support MHCA, WorkSafely and WorkForce strategies for member and external relations.
  • Assist and, where necessary, serve as MHCA representative at industry events, conferences and public forums, presenting and promoting MHCA priorities and objectives.
  • Support the President & CEO/V-P Policy & External Relations in reporting on policy, external relations and communications to the MHCA Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Support the creation of marketing materials, annual reports and other publications that enhance MHCA’s public profile.

Experience Needed:

  • A degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field.
  • 5 + years of experience in a communications role, with a focus on writing and social media management.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, capable of converting complex information into clear and engaging content.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and digital content.
  • Experience in research, analyzing data and composing policy briefs and public budgets, with ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and website maintenance is an asset.
