Do you want to work in an environment where you will be responsible for ensuring the CNL Quality Management System (QMS) is fully implemented in an organized and efficient manner? Our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) location is looking for a Quality Assurance Manager to provide quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) support to projects during all phases from design to construction/commissioning, as well as to perform audits/surveillance and assessment activities on behalf of CNL for suppliers of goods and services to the project.   • Advising on quality codes and standards applied to projects and facility operations.
  • Guiding customers in the application of quality standards.
  • Assessing existing and potential suppliers and subcontractor suppliers of items and services.
  • Ensuring products or services being procured by CNL for quality program work are procured from qualified suppliers who can deliver a technically acceptable product or service.
  • Completing bid evaluations on supplier proposals against quality requirements.
  • Reviewing adequacy and effectiveness of vendor/customer corrective action plans in response to audit/assessment/surveillance findings.
  • Assigning roles in planning, executing, and reporting quality-related surveillance activities on behalf of CNL.
  • Providing facilitation and training in surveillance.
  • Identifying and reporting conditions adverse to quality to ensure the timely resolution of quality-related issues.
  • Facilitating the completion of quality-related corrective actions by project and supplier-responsible leaders, including non-conforming items.
  • Supporting the Corrective Action Program by providing leadership and/or support of continual quality improvement initiatives, including participation in Apparent Cause Assessment (ACA) and or Root Cause Assessment (RCA), as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
  • University or college degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Quality Assurance, Project Management, Commerce, Business Administration, Computer Science, Software, Law, Economics and Engineering).
  • Experience
  • Eight (8) – 12 years of related experience in quality and project/people management.
  • Extensive experience related to the management and control of compliance auditing.
  • Extensive experience in core quality business operations, including risk-based audit planning, implementation and reporting, and internal compliance.
  • Experience in people management, specifically training, motivating, and directing employees.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and negotiating with teams and superiors.
  • Experience in leading organizational transformations and change management activities.
  • Experience in guidance related to the application of software programs, including developing and delivering training.
  • Experience in quality audits and self-assessments.
  • Significant related experience in a field of specialization related to manufacturing and fabrication.
  • Experience in formal QA/QC execution related to engineering services, construction projects, infrastructure projects and/ or operational facility modifications and assets.
  • Experience in managing a small to mid-scope departmental budget.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge in conducting and reporting audits and translating findings into corrective action plans that mitigate risks to the company, to subject safety and data integrity.
  • Advanced understanding of factors within a multifaceted organization (nuclear, non-nuclear, research) and the impact of the Company’s Functional Requirements in support of performance excellence.
  • Quality-applied certifications certifications would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of software applications to compile data and create reports, such as Microsoft Office and Oracle.
  • Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, trust, and discretion in handling and safeguarding sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to handle conflict and manage towards a positive outcome.
  • Sound judgment, initiative, strong drive, positive attitude, and consistent, careful attention to detail are essential.
  • Ability to identify conditions adverse to quality and report these to the appropriate level of line management to resolve quality-related issues.
  • Advanced knowledge in conducting and reporting audits and translating findings into corrective action plans that mitigate risks to the company, to subject safety and data integrity.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day – starting at 6 am.
  • May be required to work inside various locations, and outside in all types of weather, and in proximity to all types of hazards.
  • May be required to work in areas where radiological safety control is a necessity.
  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required in various locations and conditions at CNL and supplier locations.
