The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) has responsibility for nurturing interdisciplinary research initiatives at one of the nations’ leading research institutions. OVPR provides overall research administration and policy for all colleges and schools, as well as the university’s more than 100 centers and institutes. Working closely with deans, department heads, faculty, students and staff, the office provides an innovative and supportive research environment that spans all disciplines and campuses and assures that research activities are planned and conducted in accordance with regulations and University policy.OVPR research and works with researchers to ensure that research is conducted in accordance with federal and state regulations. We strive to foster compliance without impeding the process of research. This position is expected to initiate and execute programs to enhance the compliance program.Core responsibilities include:

  • Overall supervision of the Conflict of Interest and Outside Activities programs
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and continuous monitoring of conflict of interest, conflict of commitment and outside activities policies, guidelines and procedures in accordance with federal laws, regulations and sponsor policies
  • Reviews conflict of interest and outside activities disclosures to ensure they are consistent with university policy, regulations and sponsor requirements and to identify potential conflicts for mitigation
  • Collaborates with relevant institutional personnel to develop and monitor individualized management and mitigation plans related to conflicts of interest and outside activities
  • Supports research security program reviews related to foreign affiliations and outside activities including the screening of foreign entities associated with disclosures against proscribed or restricted entity lists, those subject to sanction programs, etc.
  • Collaborates with other departments and offices, such as the Office of Sponsored Programs, Institutional Review Board, Advancement, and Sponsored Projects Accounting to ensure research proposals, awards, protocols, and agreements are following conflict of interest, conflict of commitment and outside activities requirements
  • Collaborates with institutional stakeholders on compliance implementation initiatives, including maintenance and enhancement of the Conflict of Interest and Outside Activities reporting system
  • Develops communications, education and training related to Conflict of Interest and Outside Activities reporting obligations
  • Provides staff support for the investigation of research misconduct allegations, including support for the analysis of allegations, preparation of correspondence, tracking of allegations and assessments to ensure deadlines are met, coordination of committee meetings, and preparation of committee materials
  • Keeps informed of regulatory changes related to areas of oversight including conflict of interest and commitment, research misconduct and undue foreign influence and provides timely notifications to institutional leadership and the research community

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of various federal agency requirements regarding conflicts of interest, conflicts of commitment and research security.
