JOB SUMMARY
The Manager, Tax under the leadership of the Director, Tax will work closely with the associates, Manager, Directors, and VP of Tax on compliance, special projects, and strategic planning for various business entities and shareholders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsibly receive, transmit, and handle consumer and customer data per applicable policies and procedures.
- Review and follow data privacy practices, policies, and guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Work closely with Accounting to understand operations, plans, and ongoing projects so as to provide tax planning and a direct connection to information needed for tax compliance and planning purposes.
- Review of tax compliance (with a focus on Form 1120S, 1040, 1065, 1042), quarterly shareholder tax projections, gift tax reporting, and any other required tax reporting for the shareholders and related entities
- Manage and assist with tax consulting projects in an effort to advise stakeholders regarding the tax efficient execution of transactions and potential planning opportunities;
- Assist in analyzing and developing strategic tax planning for federal, state, and foreign tax purposes;
- Manage and assist with process improvements to enhance the efficiency of the department as well as the coordination between the tax department and other departments;
- Research complex tax issues and summarize results in a concise manner to communicate to management;
- Work closely with others in the Tax Department to ensure that the tax compliance of the shareholders and related entities is an accurate depiction of facts and circumstances and that any tax planning has been implemented;
- Work closely with others in the Tax Department to ensure the alignment of tax positions taken and communicate any tax implications that will impact the shareholders;
- Monitor tax law changes, proposals, court decisions, and IRS and state rulings. Evaluate effects and potential ramifications; determine how to minimize tax consequences to the organization and the shareholders;
- Assist with state and federal tax notices and audits.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises one or more employees. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year college or university with at least 8 – 10 years of experience including at least 6 years in public accounting; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred. Must hold a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Designation. Experience in a family office tax department preferred, but not required.
Key attributes and areas of expertise include:
- Strong team player willing to step in for others when needed
- Experience in federal tax compliance and consulting – focus on S Corporations, individuals,
- Partnerships, privately held operating businesses, and strategic transaction planning
- Experience with flow through structure implications to individual owners and related planning to minimize tax at the ownership level
- Project management
- Ability to communicate complex tax issues to various levels of internal and external parties.
- Research and analysis of complex tax issues
- Ability to work closely with others and cultivate relationships

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of the job, the associate is required on a daily basis to analyze and interpret data, communicate, and remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the work day; and frequently access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The associate is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The associate is occasionally required to travel to other sites, including out-of-state, where applicable, for business. The associate must frequently move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in an office environment, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the associate may be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels.
TRAVEL REQUIRED
Minimal travel is required for this position (up to 20% of the time and on a domestic basis).
