In person in New York or remote, full time or part time modalities would be considered.Expected duration3-6 monthsDuties and ResponsibilitiesThe Department of Mental Health and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH) is leading the implementation of the Mental Health Strategy for UN Uniformed Personnel, supported by the UN MindCompanion digital platform, available in sixteen languages. This initiative aims to enhance mental health support for peacekeepers and requires thorough assessment to measure its effectiveness. DHMOSH is also developing E-Learning modules to improve mental health literacy within UN Peacekeeping Missions. These efforts are designed to break down barriers to mental health care, and the Mental Health Strategy Intern will play a key role in supporting the development, assessment, and promotion of these vital initiatives. Duties and Responsibilities: a) Assist in evaluating the implementation and impact of the Mental Health Strategy and MindCompanion platform for UN peacekeepers. b) Support the development of E-Learning modules to improve mental health literacy. c) Collect and analyze data to assess program effectiveness. d) Coordinate with stakeholders and assist in communication efforts related to mental health initiatives. e) Help organize workshops and awareness campaigns to promote mental health among UN personnel. f) Provide administrative support, including report preparation and data management.Qualifications/special skillsWe are looking for applicants who will demonstrate their intention to study further or work in a field relevant to the work of DHMOSH. To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the FINAL academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) c) Experience in writing and publishing scientific papers. d) Proven experience in public health initiatives and program development. e) Strong background in writing, publishing, and presenting scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. f) Ability to conduct research and apply scientific principles to public health challenges. g) Skilled in data analysis and interpretation to inform evidence-based public health strategies.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.Additional InformationVisa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant (such as F1 visa) status, will be required to obtain a G4 visa. Interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization (CPT/OPT), allowing them to undertake the internship. Terms of the internship programme: -The minimum duration of this internship is three months which can be extended up to a total period of six months. -Interns are expected to work on a full-time or part-time basis in the entity that has selected them, under the supervision of a staff member at an appropriate level. The working hours will be discussed with your supervisor at the time of the interview. Internships may be undertaken on the basis of flexible working arrangements if: -The receiving entity agrees in writing to accept an intern on the basis of flexible working arrangements. -Interns agree that they are required to work the equivalent of a minimum of at least two months on a full-time basis or four months on a part-time basis in order to receive recognition of service as an intern.
