We are looking for a Mine Planning Engineer to be a key member of the Mine Scheduling and Projects team. The responsibility of this role will be to support the development of short-range mine plans and strategies to maximize value of the Bingham Canyon resource and mitigate business risk.

This is a great opportunity; you will actively work with multiple stakeholders across the value stream to facilitate best practice and develop mine planning skills focusing on production scheduling.
Reporting to the Senior Scheduler – Minerals, and working withing a diverse team you will be:
- Utilize mine planning and scheduling tools to create optimal mine designs and schedules.
- Evaluate the success of mining plans through effective reconciliation.
- Working with the Concentrator schedulers, Ore Body knowledge, and Integrated Operations teams to optimize the ore delivery and processing strategies.
- Work with Geotechnical and Geology teams to assure safe and optimal mine designs and plans.
- Effectively communicate mine plans to several groups at varying level of detail via presentations, written methods, and face to face conversations.
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- S. Degree in Mining Engineering or 3+ years’ experience working in a large open pit mine environment as a mine planner or similar role.
- Experience working in mining operational or technical teams, leading the development or implementation of mine plans.
- Safety conscious approach to work and be self-motivated to deliver results.
- Desire to coach and mentor Graduate Engineers
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Experience with Minesight or similar mine design program
- Experience with lean, six-sigma, management of change, safety system programs, intermediate to Advanced proficiency in MS Office

Where you will be working
Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter, and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum, and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
