Job Description:Location: This position can be located in any of the countries of the Europe North Area.The purpose of this position is to spread the message of the restored Church of Jesus Christ around the world. This is accomplished in part through the creation of engaging, unified messaging with greater reach and efficiency. Church messages are delivered via television, film, web, print, mobile, social media, and other delivery channels in multiple languages. We always seek new, improved, and more innovative ways to bring the world unto Christ. This position is responsible for supervising translation in developing and emerging languages, ensuring that Church doctrine and policy are correctly rendered in Church materials approved for translation.Responsibilities:

  • Provides for the training and supervision of translators of multiple languages by using policies, procedures, and aids provided by the Translation Division.
  • Balances priorities and translation workloads.
  • Maintains linguistic tools and resources, including translation memories, glossaries, and style guides for assigned languages.
  • Acts as a linguistic or cultural consultant for the assigned languages.
  • Ensures that translated materials conform to standards by performing reviews to ensure compliance with approved policies and processes and by reviewing back translations on completed items and comparing them to English originals.
  • Project management: Uses standard processes to ensure the timely completion of projects, including managing communication, project expectations, and payment with external translation providers. Balances translation, interpretation, and production workloads for the assigned languages through efficient project coordination, including file preparation, task assignment, and project tracking. Ensures final delivery of project files to the requesting party.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Area Translation Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in languages, linguistics, or related areas and at least 8 years of experience in translation.
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills are required.
  • Formal qualification/certification and/or equivalent experience in British Sign Language (BSL) or other sign languages is a strong advantage.
  • In-depth knowledge of stylistic, grammatical, and editorial differences between variants of English (American vs. British English) is a strong advantage.
  • Proven skills in public speaking, interpersonal communication, team leadership, coaching, time management, project management, problem-solving and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Start-up mentality and developmental mindset desired.
  • Ability to exemplify a compassionate leadership style.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with operating systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of word processing, graphic production and language recording best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools preferred.
  • Knowledge of Church doctrine, policies and ecclesiastical organization.
