Job Description:OverviewReporting to the Digital Editor, you’ll become a key part of the What Car? editorial team, writing and reporting news for both print and digital. You’ll build and develop your industry contacts to secure exclusive news, and to gain access to new products and industry insiders before our rivals.You’ll be expected to use the full suite of tools at your disposal, from website and SEO analytics tools, through to Photoshop and What Car?’s content management system. You’ll keep one eye on social media, too – all with the goal of ensuring your work reaches as many readers as possible.
Responsibilities

  • To source and develop news stories in line with What Car?’s brand, business and SEO objectives.
  • Ensure a daily steam of new and updated news content covering the entire mainstream new-car market and related topics.
  • Work with the digital editor to ensure What Car? news content consistently ranks well in Google News for key terms.
  • Monitor website and SEO analytics tools, using the data to identify areas for improvement, and acting on the findings.
  • Monitor competitor activity, particularly for frequency and breadth of coverage to ensure What Car? remains a step ahead.
  • Work with the deputy digital editor to ensure all magazine requirements are met.
  • Attend relevant events as directed by the editorial leadership team.
  • Work alongside the entire editorial team to ensure the potential of all access and assets is maximised.
  • Be an advocate for What Car? on these events, helping to ensure that the title gets the best early access to opportunities.
  • Alongside the social media manager and head of video, build and maintain a cadence of engaging news videos for What Car?’s social media platforms which are suitable to embed in website content.

Skills / Experience / Knowledge / Minimum Criteria

  • Strong knowledge of the automotive industry
  • The drive to high quality news content across print and digital platforms
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proofreading and editing skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Willingness to embrace new technologies and working procedures
  • Good team player
