They offer students an environment where they can focus on their education and potential in a way that cannot be found anywhere else on Earth; a place where they’ll be challenged by a rigorous curriculum and encouraged to take on leadership roles at school and amongst each other.Currently accepting applicants located in IL, MA, CT, RI, CA, NY and WI to work in a fully remote office environment with ability to hold primary working hours in Eastern Standard Time Zone (EST).A bit about the Accountant role:The Accountant is key in upholding GAAP standards, maintaining the school’s financial bookkeeping and a member of the Finance team.More about the Accountant role:Wearing multiple hats and saying “yes” to a variety of challenges associated with several entities, including one in its infancy. Flexibility and adaptability and ability to shift focus quickly. Your specific responsibilities include:Accounting and Finance· Follow all accounting policies and procedures compliant with Rwandan NGO and US nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls. Support the Finance Director in documenting the procedures in a business department standard operating procedure manual.· Manage the purchase requisition system in NetSuite. Ensure requests have the appropriate documentation and coding.· Submit requisitions on behalf of assigned departments. Serve as the backup requestor for other departments.· Train staff on how to submit NetSuite purchase requests. Serve as the support person for troubleshooting purchase request questions or problems.· Manage the accounts payable system in NetSuite. Prepare bills in the NetSuite system for the Finance Director’s approval. Ensure all bills have appropriate documentation and reconcile to an approved purchase order. Close purchase orders as necessary.· Prepare vendor checks and vouchers.· Reconcile corporate purchasing card activity through the Navan expense management system. Ensure transactions have appropriate documentation.· Collaborate with Development Department to ensure revenue is recognized in the accurate period and with the appropriate restrictions.· Manage the cash reconciliation in NetSuite. Prepare the bank and investment reconciliations in NetSuite for review and approval by the Finance Director.· Prepare the fiscal period ending workbooks to maintain the balance sheet and appropriately eliminate intercompany transactions.· Prepare and enter journal entries for the Finance Director’s review and approval.· Maintain the fixed asset list.· Maintain vendor files including W9 information. Reconcile and submit 1099 reports annually.· Actively monitor department budgets and alert the department heads and Finance Director when budget lines are projected to be in excess of budget.· Support the Finance Director during the annual budget development process as needed.· Support the Finance Director with monthly, quarterly, or annual financial reports as needed.· Support the Finance Director with financial audit and 990 preparation and administration.Operations· Maintain vendor contract files. Inform Finance Director of contracts near expiration that require renewals.· Perform an annual fixed asset inventory.Grant Management
- Prepare budgets and financial reports for grant reports and proposals. Track grant-related expenses, budget-to-actual to ensure programs staff stay within grant budgets.
RequirementsThe successful candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- 3-5 years’ experience in nonprofit accounting
- 1-3 years’ experience in NetSuite
- Experience with various platforms such as Navan, Bloomerang, ADP
- Advanced Excel abilities
- Fluent in English
- Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship (no exceptions)
- Must pass background check
Preferred Qualifications:· Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field· 3-5 years’ experience in nonprofit accounting, specifically grant management· Experience working with global and remote teams· Experience working with schools or complex NGO/nonprofit entities· Proficiency in Dari, Pashto, Kinyarwanda or FrenchBenefitsSalary Range $80,000 – $85,000 with bonus eligibilityBenefits offered are: employer paid life, long term, and short term disability, 401K match (after 6 months), elective health, dental, and vision.Not sure you meet all qualifications?
