We are a place to explore the sea, space, art and history, and our strategy ‘Charting Our Course’ puts people at the core of its success.The Astronomy Engagement department is based at the Royal Observatory Greenwich and undertakes a wide range of science communication and engagement programmes and activities for Public and Educational audiences. Reporting to the Learning Operations Officer, the Observatory Coordinator primarily focuses on assisting the Learning Operations team with coordinating and hosting the Public Astronomy programme. Key responsibilities include setting up and clearing away furniture, equipment, and material for events, meeting and greeting clients, collaborators, and partners, and participating in and considering safeguarding procedures when dealing with family and school audiences.The successful candidate will need to have demonstrable experience of organizing events and working in customer service. An interest in astrophysics/astronomy and space science, as well as an awareness of child safeguarding issues are essential. The postholder will have excellent experience of practical problem-solving, basic administrative work and are diligent, organised, and self-sufficient.This is a zero-hours, casual worker role in band 7 – Coordinators. The postholder would need to be available to take up shifts mainly taking place in the evenings or on weekends. Work opportunities will be relatively frequent but irregular and will usually be offered 1 month in advance. The post-holder will be required to work 3-6 hours on any given day, with breaks provided for those working 4 hours or more. Casual workers are entitled to paid annual leave, which is accrued based on the number of hours worked.
