The Obstetric Medicine Continuity of Care Midwifery Team Leader is a senior role that combines clinical expertise, leadership, and coordination skills to provide high-quality, woman-centred care to pregnant individuals with complex medical conditions. This position involves managing a team of midwives delivering continuity of care across the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods, ensuring that care is safe, evidence-based, and tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual.Main duties of the jobLead a team of midwives in delivering holistic care to women with medical complexities, ensuring adherence to best practices and guidelines.Provide consistent, personalized care throughout the pregnancy journey, fostering strong relationships and improving maternal and neonatal outcomes.Collaborate with obstetricians, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to manage care plans for patients with complex health needs.Supervise and mentor midwifery staff, promoting professional development and fostering a supportive team environment.Monitor clinical outcomes and implement improvement initiatives to enhance the quality and safety of care.Provide education to patients and families about their conditions and advocate for their needs within the healthcare system.Contribute to service planning, manage team schedules, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulations.About usChelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of England’s top-performing and safest trusts. Using continual assessment and analysis you will provide continuity of carer throughout the womans pregnancy, birth and postnatal period to ensure her medical, psychological and social needs are assessed and holistically cared for. As a continuity midwife you will be working alongside multi professional teams providing the most appropriate care for women whilst breaking down barriers that can inhibit women with medically complex lives accessing high quality maternity care.Provide high quality, evidence-based care and advice to women throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods from within the hospital site.Provide continuity of care and carer in combination with emotional and psychological support during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods from within the hospital site.Liaise appropriately with services to ensure safe and effective care is provided to women at the right place, and at the right time. Act as an advocate for women, whilst safeguarding her and her wider family and social group where appropriate.Have an in depth understanding of barriers which may impact or inhibit women from accessing timely and regular antenatal care. Act as a care navigator to ensure timely access to the appropriate pathway is achieved.Have sound knowledge of both uncomplicated and complex pathways, physiological birth initiatives, safeguarding issues and their management.Advocate for women and support them in their choices surrounding pregnancy and birth, whilst empowering them and promoting birth as a normal, physiological process.Provide evidence-based education to women and the facilitate Parent Education initiatives.Provide and perform accurate assessments and procedures during antenatal appointments, labour care (including supporting water birth, perineal suturing, cannulation and intravenous administration of drugs) and in the postnatal period.Support womens choices regarding feeding their infant, whilst encouraging and promoting UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiatives.
