Your Responsibilities:
- Working closely with the Depot Manager & Depot Supervision, the postholder is responsible for day-to-day management of the Manchester Depot Operations.
- Ensure all correct equipment is in suitable condition and on vehicles as required in order to carry out all duties effectively to completion. Hire additional equipment as required to complete a job.
- Oversee the efficient and professional standards of the depot. This includes ensuring the depot is kept clean, maintained, waste segregated correctly, and work takes place in a safe and compliant manner.
- Always hold full responsibility for effective communication with all field staff: rearrange any work requirement should this be needed. As part of this, communicate daily to operations team regarding expectations of their role and details of the work they are completing, feeding back all aspects of operations to the Depot Manager.
- To allocate jobs and select appropriately trained staff to complete works to a safe and required standard. Additionally, to ensure all paperwork and documentation, including job packs, are ready for the following working day for all field staff, ensuring field staff have as much information as possible on the job they will be doing, loading to focal point and job card buffering.
- Preparing and communicating the on call rota for the Operational employees, liaising with the office to provide details of the emergency call out rota. This includes managing overtime for weekend work.
- To carry out the health and safety induction for new starters, ensuring that the health and safety induction checklist has been completed.
- Setting probation targets for all new employees under the Operations manager’s responsibility. The Operations Manager should also meet with the employees at the end of their probation period to discuss their progress and performance and either confirm, extend or terminate their probation as required (liaising with HR should there be issues with performance).
- To carry out any site visits necessary to ensure correct and full RAMS be completed for all jobs. Method statements and Risk assessments should be subject to regular review, and updated as required. The Operations Manager has overall responsibility for the health and safety of all employees operating under him / her.
- Overall responsibility for planning and undertaking regular toolbox talks and audits and inspections.
- Acting as the main point of contact for clients, and keeping them fully updated on works. The postholder should also contact the site after to enquire how the job went, and gaining feedback that can be passed to the Operatives. This includes keeping both the client and Line Manager fully informed of any operational change; the postholder is expected to be able to provide a full operational brief when asked by a senior manager.
- To collate and check all paperwork and pass to the appropriate department for processing. This is to be done daily. This includes overall responsibility for the filing and accuracy of all records, which must be kept for a period of not less than 15 months (for maintenance, 12 months for tachos and 24 months for WTD).
- Uploading all job-related documents to the job files folder in the Manchester shared drive. All job folders will have a counterpart record on the sales master sheet.
- Responsibility for job sheet returns from operational staff.
- Acting as the Duty Manager on the on call rota. This includes logging on out of hours (as part of a rota) to complete job cards that come in out of hours.
- Preparing quotations, arranging works and pricing jobs for invoicing as required.
- Pricing the monthly stock take.
- Implement new procedures & processes as required, ensuring the depot is fully compliant
- Report to the Depot Manager any cost savings he/she may be able to implement or any sales revenue he/she may be able to implement.
- Deputising for members of staff during annual leave as required; e.g. Depot Manager.
- Provide assistance to other departments and managers with day to day work and on-going project work as required.

Qualifications and Skills:
- Must possess and demonstrate experience & knowledge gained in a similar environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to tailor to whatever group delivering to including colleagues, customers, and members of the public.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrate a full understanding of all associated works.
- Possess managerial and supervisory experience within the industry.
- Excellent knowledge of and ability to prepare RAMS, undertake full site audit and deliver recommendation from such audits.
