Our Chalk River location is looking for an Operations Specialist to support our Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)/ Advanced Nuclear Materials Research Centre (ANMRC) Support Branch.   • Providing technical, budget and schedule oversight and acting on behalf of the Facilities as operations representative.
  • Assisting in providing technical support for maintenance of all systems.
  • Being responsible for the safe, proper, and efficient operation of all Facility systems.
  • Handling of radioactive materials, using the appropriate methods and precautions required.
  • Being cross-trained in operating multiple facilities efficiently, safely and competently.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
  • At minimum, a Bachelor (Honours) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization. Generally, less than 2 years’ experience.
  • Must have broad training or educational qualifications specific to the job duties; be willing to obtain or attend further job-related training and accreditation.
  • Experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member and to respond to challenging schedule demands.
  • Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergencies, hazardous conditions, or unusual production demands.
  • Experience in nuclear operations is an asset.
  • General knowledge of nuclear, mechanical, chemistry, and electrical.
  • Direct experience in an operations environment would be an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Must be self-motivated and driven.
  • Must be comfortable in performing work with short timelines and high pressure.
  • Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or hazardous conditions.
  • Must possess good judgment and communication skills [oral and written].
  • Demonstrate ability to work as an effective team member and to respond to challenging schedule demands.
  • Must possess a high sense of individual responsibility.
  • Knowledge of process, mechanical and electrical systems operations, and maintenance practices.
  • Basic knowledge of business and management principles involved in project planning, budgeting and resource allocation, and coordination of resources.
  • Basic knowledge of procurement and financial processes.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Level 2 Secret with SASC requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • Expected to work in the nuclear facilities on Site at Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories.
  • Work in moderate radiation hazard environments where personal protective equipment is required.
  • Work location will be in CNL’s controlled area (radiation training provided; must be able to use a respirator; frequent monitoring is necessary; security checkpoints are part of daily routine; daily commute by foot from the parking lot to the work area is required).
  • The environment demands high vigilance to alarms, lights, and signals as a safety requirement.
  • Ability to respond calmly and responsibly to emergency situations 24/7 at times.

Location:This role is a fully onsite role that requires the employee to primarily work at CNL’s Chalk River Laboratory site, with only occasional opportunities to work remotely, if desired by the employee.
