Do you want to work in an environment where you will be responsible for the safe and effective operation of all Non-Nuclear Buildings and Systems? Intrigued? We are looking for an Operations Technician; in this role, you will operate facilities, systems and equipment, oversee routine preventive maintenance, and complete or assist with emergency repairs as necessary. Can you see yourself ensuring building systems are operated and properly maintained in compliance with applicable regulations and provide a safe work environment for personnel working on the Whiteshell (WL) Site?   • Operating systems and equipment, overseeing routine preventive maintenance of equipment, providing site utility services, analyzing water samples and providing treatment according to established programs.
  • Completing emergency or running repairs as necessary or assisting with same. Recognizing trouble symptoms associated with equipment failure and takeing mitigating action as necessary.
  • Maintaining familiarity with site operations, utilities, pump house, fire water distribution, water treatment plant, domestic water distribution, domestic sewage collection and treatment, mechanical/electrical data, and drawings.
  • Ensuring Site Operations equipment or systems to be worked on by other personnel (decommissioning, maintenance, etc.) are safely de-energized and isolated in accordance with the CNL Lock Out Tag Out procedure.
  • Contributing to the identification and planning of necessary maintenance work for Non-Nuclear Operations equipment and buildings.
  • Authorizing work permits providing oversight of work conducted under the CNL Work Permit system within the Non- Nuclear buildings and Site Operations services and equipment.
  • Ensuring work is done safely in compliance within the applicable regulations and company procedures.
  • Maintaining close communication with co-workers and with the Senior Operations Technician.
  • Contributing to the writing and maintaining high-quality documents and records describing building operations, maintenance and unplanned events.
  • Conducting and recording the basic operating routines pertaining to equipment inspection and log entry requirements.
  • Providing support as required to oversee work conducted within the Non-nuclear Facilities.
  • Conducting pre- and post- job briefs around work permit authorization, job site walk downs and inspections, system de-energization, and isolation.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and revising Operating Procedures or Instructions for non-nuclear systems and processes.
  • Maintaining confidentiality in all matters.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Relevant technician/technologist diploma from a recognized college and/or having two (2) to three (3) years’ of experience relevant to process operations preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Experience
  • Good working knowledge of Building operations, Water Treatment & Distribution, Waste Water Collection & Treatment, Electrical distribution.
  • Skill and familiarity with computer software packages such as Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a working knowledge of the following CNL support / compliance programs as they relate to process and building operations: Radiation Protection; Environmental Protection, Occupational Health and Safety, Security, and Emergency Preparedness.
  • Ability to function in a regulated work environment involving stringent protection and industrial safety rules and measures.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with process equipment and systems is essential.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and produce legible records of measurements or other observations.
  • Demonstrated solid interpersonal skills, as well as good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess mature work ethics and be able to work with minimal supervision, as well as working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Initiative and judgement to organize and maintain flow of work and accuracy of records.
  • Must be punctual, dependable and safety-minded.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand detailed information is essential.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and response with initiative.
  • Applicant must obtain an RP Group 4 status and successfully demonstrate the ability to perform the assigned work activities.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • Must possess normal physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work that involves bending, lifting and mobility.
  • Must be capable of wearing and working in protective clothing and using equipment as required. Job periodically involves working in Category 4 Arc Flash Suit.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of temperatures ranging from +30 to -40 C.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work at heights.
  • Will involve hard, physical work in hot or dirty conditions.
  • Will involve a lot of walking and stair climbing. Often involves work in high noise areas.
  • Environment demands high vigilance to alarms, lights, and signals as a safety requirement.
