Job Description: |
The dental assistant duties will include:
- Working with the full time dental assistants in the clinic. These duties will be to assist the faculty, residents, and student dentists during their practice chair-side care of patients. Anticipate the needs of the doctors and patients to expedite the efficient running of the clinics, including but not limited to periodontal charting and all aspects of both non-surgical and surgical dental care. Maintain each operatory in a clean and ready state, including setup and break down for daily procedures. Set up instrument trays for each procedure. Maintain and sterilize dental instruments, prepare surgical packs and operatory equipment for the clinic. Print and review daily schedules with the other dental assistants.
- Process digitally managed and/or develops radiographs.
The front desk duties will include:
- Answering phones, scheduling appointments for 12 residents, 1 fellow and intern. Reschedule appointments when necessary. Retrieve phone messages throughout the day and from the evening and responds back in a timely manner. Checks house call report, which is appointment reminder for the school, to make sure appointments were confirmed, if not, see what actions need to be taken, whether canceled or another second complimentary call due to voicemail delivery. Schedule all internal and outside patient referrals. Schedules all IV sedations and coordinates with other schedules. Responsible for scanning all correspondence, referrals, etc. in patient’s electronic chart. Collect all referrals sent to clinic and give to Director when he is in clinic so he can assign to residents. Keep an updated spreadsheet of the referrals assigned by Director to residents.
- OPS Dental Assistant/ Clerk will also serve as a backup all day for either position if there is a staff shortage.
- Assist Financial Counselor with verifying Medicaid Managed Care plans for patients.

Expected Salary: |
$16.00 per hour
|
Minimum Requirements: |
High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Ability to prepare, sterilize, and maintain dental instruments and equipment
- Ability to follow written instructions and pay close attention to details
- Knowledge of dental terminology
- Ability to instruct patients in preventative dental techniques
- Knowledge of dental hygiene principles and practices
- Ability to deal with public in a courteous and tactful manner
