UN Global Compact Network UK

Job title:

Outreach Manager

Company

UN Global Compact Network UK

Job description

The UN Global Compact Network UK is a multi-stakeholder initiative connecting UK companies to the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest responsible business initiative. The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, rooted in UN treaties, provide a robust foundation for corporate sustainability and business action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our mission is to promote sustainability leadership to create a world we want to live and do business in, by inspiring ambition, enabling action, and collaborating to shape the business environment.

The Network Secretariat Team is currently 25 people strong and growing. During a recent review, the team used words like friendly, inclusive, supportive, family, passionate, and hard-working to describe our workplace.

Our work is guided by the core values of the UN – Integrity, Professionalism and Respect for Diversity – and nine additional values and behaviours of the UN Global Compact. Find out more . You can find information about the UN Global Compact Network UK’s governance .

The Outreach Manager will report to the Head of Impact and Growth. The UN Global Compact Network UK has over 800 participating companies. We are growing quickly and growth is absolutely central to our mission, enabling us to expand our influence and impact. The successful candidate will engage a very wide range of companies to gain an understanding of the support they need to be more sustainable and how our programming can help them.

We are looking for:

Someone excited about our mission and the role business can play in overcoming the environmental and social challenges the world is facing. Understanding business interests and our unique value proposition will be key to ensuring engagement with our messaging.

Someone who communicates effectively. You will need to nurture excellent relationships with prospects, engage and build partnerships with relevant business associations and chambers of commerce, and represent UN Global Compact Network UK at events and conferences engaging companies around our impact objectives and generating leads. We will also need you to communicate persuasively in written form to help engage at scale.

Someone who can effectively and efficiently maintain a prospect pipeline to drive recruitment of companies into our initiative. This will entail implementing a marketing plan to attract prospects and then following up with them via email and LinkedIn, but also calls and in-person meetings. The successful candidate will probably be a business development and marketing all-rounder with a minimum of three years of professional experience in a commercial role. Familiarity with Salesforce and Asana would also be an asset.

Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and manages efficiently, working well in a team as well as independently. The Network is constantly evolving and so are our team and needs; the successful candidate will work on a wide variety of activities and rapidly gain responsibility.

In your first 6 months:

We’ll need you to get settled quickly. Through online training and meetings with relevant colleagues, we’ll help you to become familiar with our way of working and all the programming offered by the UN Global Compact Network UK, and our colleagues at HQ and around the world.

After onboarding, we’ll expect you to start working on our prospect funnel. This will entail following up with companies that have expressed interest in joining the UN Global Compact and conducting introductory calls – with a colleague at first and then on your own. We’ll also have you work on refining our 2024 growth marketing plan to nurture current prospects and generate new recruitment opportunities. You will also be asked to lead engagement and partnership with third parties, business associations and chambers of commerce.

What are the next steps?

If you proceed with your application, you’ll be asked to complete an equal opportunities questionnaire. The main reason we are using the Applied platform is to eliminate bias from our hiring process, so it’s important that we have this information to know if it is working. We will only ever see stats about groups and never about you; answering these questions will never impact your application.

Next, we’ll collect some essential admin information.

Finally, we will ask you to answer three questions designed to test your ability to do the job. Please give it your best effort, your scores on these questions will be the primary consideration in whether you are invited for an interview. To avoid bias, we do not look at CVs until later in the process.

At the interview, we’ll ask each candidate to complete a task to understand your copywriting style and proofreading abilities. This will be considered in our final decision-making.

Every application will be scored, and you will receive feedback.

Before applying for this role, please note the following:

We utilise plagiarism software that can also detect the use of AI. Applicants found to be using these services will have their application immediately disqualified.

The UN Global Compact Network UK is unfortunately not in a position to sponsor workers who do not already have the right to work in the UK. Before applying for this role, please ensure that you have a valid UK work visa.

Good luck!
