Collins Aerospace is looking for Packaging Engineer to join our team in Fairfield, Ca. You will determine packaging requirements for Hazardous Materials supporting escape energetics for commercial, DOD military and foreign military aircraft contracts. You will also participate, as needed, on cross-functional team(s) assembled and certified to handle the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) process.
Eligible for relocation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure the product is packaged correctly and according to customer mandates, especially to SPI’s monitored by DCMA.
- Estimate cost for packaging manufactured goods during bid preparation.
- Assist in completing Logistics Shipping Checklists ready to support the Sales Order Kickoff (SOKO), prior to releasing Production Work Orders in SAP.
- Support shipping department so that Competent Authorities are up to date, valid and consistent with the SAP material master.
- Ensure correct packaging materials and quantities are ordered and providing valid UN (United Nations) Classification numbers for box marking.
- Support engineering team in acquiring Competent Authorities for new designs, including designing packaging schema for UN Series 4 and Series 6 Testing and POP(Performance Oriented Packaging)tests.
- Complete MOCs (Management of Change) for new packaging equipment.
- Point of contact for technical support for procurement of explosives examinations required for hazard classification and/or competent authority letter(s) for shipping manufactured energetic devices.
- Provide consultation support to the Logistics Department towards acquisition of DOT Special Permit membership and POP Testing per UN and DOT regulations.
- Determine type and quantities for simulated inert charges used in the respective POP tests.
- As required, attend POP Test meetings to help organize and schedule these 2-year reoccurring tests in support of scheduled contract delivery dates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience Needed:
- Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience.
- U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Solid interpersonal skills – ability to communicate and influence at all levels within an organization
- Solid presentation skills – able to analyze, prepare, and deliver presentations to leadership
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with 49 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations)
- Familiarity with SAP ( System Application & Procedures)

The salary range for this role is 68,000 USD – 136,000 USD; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
