The Paramedic will be in very remote/ isolated locations providing urgent/ emergent care to injured/ ill workforce as well as occupational medical care to on-site employees.This position will work varying rotational shifts: 3 weeks on/3 off, as example; Employee responsible for travel to/from home state to Anchorage, Alaska. Employer provides transportation from Anchorage, AK to work site in Prudhoe Bay (North Slope, AK). All meals, all lodging, and some additional amenities are included during your weeks on the job.Essential Job FunctionsRemote Medics will assess, treat, and coordinate transport for patients to higher-level medical providers, commonly in the form of a clinic or hospital. Invasive care may include advanced airways, IV therapy, medications, and defibrillation. The workforce consists of contractor employees and operates from base or field camps. Ancillary duties as assigned.Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide non-emergency and emergency medical response to employees on site
  • Assesses the safety and hazards at the scene of an emergency
  • Controls the hazards at an emergency scene
  • Determines the nature and extent of illness or injury present and establishes the priorities for emergency care
  • Under the direct or indirect supervision of a physician, treats injuries or illness using advanced life support techniques and medications; these may include:
  • Airway management
  • Intravenous therapy, heart monitoring with an Electrocardiographic (ECG) device
  • Defibrillation
  • Synchronized cardioversion
  • Administration of any type of parenterally, orally, or topically approved medication or solution
  • Needle chest decompression
  • Gastric and oral/tracheal suctioning
  • Basic Life Support techniques of the EMT-1
  • Extricates patients from entrapment
  • Provides special rescue services where trained in those specific areas
  • Performs triaging of patients and management of mass casualty situations
  • Completes detailed documentation on patient care and transport
  • Understands and uses appropriate state and federal regulations pertaining to EMS, confined space, hazardous materials, incident command system, blood borne pathogens, airborne pathogens, and controlled substances
  • Maintains, cleans, and restocks emergency supplies and equipment
  • Support the HSE function as a helper and not a decision maker where, in the opinion of the practitioner, the support does not interfere with the medical provision at the location

Job Requirements – Education and Training

  • Must have Alaska NREMT-P license
  • Current CPR and ACLS
  • 5+ years remote and/or emergency response experience

Physical Demands and Work ConditionsWork conditions are such that significant time will be spent walking, standing, stooping, sitting, assisting with positioning patients, and include some lifting. Exposure to anesthetic gases, blood and body fluids, sharps, and other health care occupational hazards is routine.
