Classification and Salary:
Maintenance Service Worker 1 (MSW1) – Park Maintenance Worker 1:
$20.14 – $24.22 per hour
Maintenance Service Worker 2 (MSW2) – Park Maintenance Worker 2:
$23.38 – $28.34 per hour
Maintenance Service Worker 3 (MSW3) – Park Maintenance Crew Lead:
$24.68 – $30.16 per hour

For all roles:

In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.2% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:

• 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
• 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay

In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay:

• $3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays
• $2.75 per hour for evenings

Kinbrook Island Provincial Park: is a popular destination for camping and outdoor recreation just outside of Brooks. The lake, beach area, surrounding marshes and large campground provide many outdoor activities such as boating, swimming, sunbathing, fishing, hiking, bird watching and more.

Tillebrook Provincial Park: is an oasis on the prairie and is a popular campground for locals, avid bird watchers and those that love a beautiful prairie sunset just outside of Brooks.

Dinosaur Provincial Park (DPP): is located 48km NE of Brooks, Alberta and is rich in cultural and natural heritage. This UNESCO World Heritage Site attracts visitors from all over the world to experience the landscape of the badlands, its rich fossil resources, and the riparian habitat.

Role Responsibilities

If you enjoy working outside and are committed to improving a visitor’s experience when they visit a provincial park by maintaining facilities and campgrounds, come join our Maintenance Team in one of our Southern Alberta locations – Kinbrook Island, Tillebrook and Dinosaur Provincal Parks.

We are looking for highly motivated, well-organized, responsible Maintenance Workers for the 2024 summer season. You will be part of a team accountable for providing regular maintenance and operational duties that support the day-to-day operation of campgrounds, day use areas, facilities and trail systems.

We are currently looking to hire:

• Park Maintenance Worker 1 (MSW1)
• Parks Mainenance Worker 2 (MSW2)
• Parks Maintenance Crew Lead (MSW3)

As a Park Maintenance Service Worker (MSW1), duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Performing landscaping and maintenance of campgrounds, day use areas and facilities
• Cleaning of buildings, restrooms, vault toilets, showerhouses. Cleaning includes mopping, sweeping, disinfecting toilets, sinks, floors, shower stalls
• Litter pick up and garbage removal on beaches, day use facilities, picnic areas.
• Performing routine and preventative maintenance on infrastructure, vehicles and equipment
• Operating irrigation systems as directed according to operational needs
• Assisting with water testing for small water systems
• Operating equipment such as mowers, trimmers, ATVs, skid steers, etc.
• Assisting with trail maintenance, beach and dock maintenance
• Installing and maintaining signage
• Reporting all maintenance concerns accordingly
• Assisting with hazard tree management and invasive plant management programs
• Being familiar with and practicing all pertinent Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) policies, procedures and protocols as well as with the Facility Emergency Response Plan and protocols
• Completing administrative tasks such as timesheets, expense claims, commencement and termination paperwork, and online courses

Please note* Caretaking services and Park Maintenance are rolled into one work unit at Kinbrook Island and Tillebrook Parks. Expect to perform general caretaking and general Park Maintenance duties at these locations.

Continued Role Responsibilities

As the Park Maintenance Worker 2 (MSW2), primary duties include assisting with and performing MSW1 duties in addition to some front-line administrative and supervisory tasks such as:

• Conducting trail and Park maintenance projects
• Tasked with daily operation and oversite of the irrigation systems
• Maintaining roads and parking lot areas
• Assisting with playground routine inspections and maintenance
• Installing and removing docks, maintaining beaches
• Operating heavy equipment such as loaders, graders, groomers, Vac Truck, garbage trucks, etc.)
• Operating chainsaws, brush saws and other landscape equipment with appropriate training and certifications
• Campsite maintenance and building cleaning as required
• Ensuring vehicles and equipment are maintained to standard
• Cleaning and caretaking duties as required

As the Park Maintenance Crew Lead (MSW3), primary duties include assisting MSW1 and MSW2 Workers with the duties mentioned above in addition to administrative and supervisory tasks such as:

• Onsite lead for a crew of MSW staff. Accountable for direct site operations, and for leading the task scheduling for other staff.
• Leading trail crews where applicable
• Assisting with formal inspections, maintenance and servicing of equipment
• Conducting purchasing and orders supply inventory within budget
• Assisting with staff training and staff performance reviews
• Supporting the operation of various systems in accordance with standards and regulations to ensure safe provision of drinking water and waste water removal

All positions will require you to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. You have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week and will be paid for number of hours worked. You must have good physical stamina to be able to perform manual duties outdoors and in any time of weather conditions, rain or shine.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Park Maintenance Worker 1 – (Maintenance Service Worker 1)

• Some high school education or directly related experience based on one year of experience for one year of education

Park Maintenance Worker 2- (Maintenance Service Worker 2)

• Some high school education and one year of related experience or directly related experience based on one year of experience for one year of education

Park Maintenance Crew Lead – (Maintenance Service Worker 3)

• Some high school education, related training, plus two years of related experience or directly related experience based on one year of experience for one year of education and some supervision experience

Additional Assets to be successful in any of the roles:

• Experience with hand and power tools; good working knowledge in the operation, maintenance and safety of small equipment
• Experience working in custodial, landscaping, or similar positions
• Chainsaw certification
• Exceptional communication skills and comfort level in dealing with difficult customer interactions or complaints
• Experience working within a campground setting

Notes

Terms of Employment:

Various terms available; April – October, July – August, May – September.

For all positions:

• Access to reliable transportation to and from place of work
• Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent will be required
• Final Candidates may be required to provide an acceptable 5yr Commercial Driver’s Abstract. (Will be reimbursed)
• Recognized Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level “C”/AED Certificate

(Required prior to hire for MSW3 Crew Lead, asset for MSW1 and MSW2)

• Adherence to Alberta Parks Uniform Policy; all personal protective equipment is provided; Certified Safety footwear is not provided, but candidates will be reimbursed for a portion of the cost
• These positions will require outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions
• Training sessions at the beginning of employment are mandatory (late April/early May)
