By focusing on battery recycling, UK can support the transition to clean energy by ensuring a sustainable supply of materials for battery production. This contributes to the development of a more resilient and sustainable energy infrastructure.This project will apply a high porous material, which will be used to remove the metals from the battery impregnated parts such as cathode, anode, electrolyte, and separator. This process will save energy and carbon footprint compared to the current methodology which is use of Battery Recycling Shredders.The project funding includes an agreed budget for 2 part-time members of staff to be employed, as Research Assistants, as follows:Post 1 – 21.75 hrs per week for 18 monthsPost 2 – 18.75 hrs per week for 6 monthsTo apply, submit your CV and a covering letter, detailing how you meet the requirements for the role.For informal discussion and enquiries, contact:Dr Carlos Fernandez,Job DescriptionRESPONSIBLE TO: Carlos Fernandez, Senior LecturerRESPONSIBLE FOR: No supervisory responsibilityPURPOSE OF POST: Project manage the research streams and contribute to delivery of milestones & deliverables.PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Work as a key member of a research team
- Carry out literature searches and develop contextualised aims and objectives
- Draft research protocols and secure ethical approvals
- Organise team communication and meetings
- Execute the processes of data collection and analysis
- Draft research reports and papers for peer review
- Ensure there is adherence to Data Management policies and health and safety and other legislative requirements
- Contribute to research team meetings at school and university level.
Person SpecificationESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTSQualifications and Professional MembershipBSc (Honours) First or Upper Second class degree or a Master degree (with Distinction or Merit) in chemistry or a related discipline.Knowledge and skills
- English language competency (with a suitable qualification for international applicants).
- Ability to work independently on own initiative and in a team.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and communication skills.
Experience
- Experience in liaising and building relationships with industrial partners
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTSKnowledge
- A general interest in batteries and related materials
Experience
- Experience in using equipment such as ICP-MS, FT-IR and X-Ray diffraction.
- Experience of interdisciplinary research collaboration
- Experience of both qualitative and quantitative research methods
£33,966 to £37,099 per year, pro rata
