As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.The Patient Engagement Coordinator (PEC) reports to the Quality Lead Patient Centered Performance Improvement, BC Renal. The PEC works both independently and collaboratively to plan and implement strategies, based on the patient engagement framework, ensuring active patient and family/supporter engagement, including participation in feedback, patient and family/supporter-centered care initiatives, service planning, delivery and evaluation. Responsible for developing, co-designing, and evaluating partnership opportunities between patients/families/supporters and providers and staff at PC-ICCN and BC Renal. The PEC will have opportunity to innovate, mentor patient partners, build capacity around partnerships and coordinate existing and new patient, family/supporter care partner feedback systems on services, support and other planning activities.This role will support PC-ICCN and BC Renal health care professionals in practicing appropriate and effective engagement with patients, families/supporters as partners, collaborates with leaders on ongoing development in patient and family/supporter-centered care, and actively collaborates on special initiatives and events involving patient and family/supporter care partner engagement.What you’ll do
- Co-develops and implements plans to facilitate the engagement of patients and family/supporter care partners to participate in service planning, delivery, and evaluation and to coordinate feedback systems for improved services and related initiatives.
- Active membership including taking on leadership or advisory roles on program-related committees that would benefit from patient engagement expertise, and being on quality, knowledge translation and leadership tables to address and advance patient engagement as a priority.
- Identifies related potential partner concerns arising from existing systems/practices to leadership and collaborates to reach acceptable resolutions. Coordinates patient and family/supporter engagement inquiries and requests across PC-ICCN and BC Renal.
- Builds capacity including advising staff and providers on patient engagement resources, tools, assessing partnership roles and functions, facilitating discussions on patient and family/supporter partnerships with health care professionals, providers, and staff in understanding patient engagement, and in practicing appropriate and effective partnership approaches with patients/families.
- Coordinates patient partner network functions, tracks, and trends contacts, and reports out to the leadership on all Network activities.
- Coordinates the expense and honorarium claims of patient partners across PC-ICCN and BC Renal.
- Facilitates the selection and onboarding of new patient partners of PC-ICCN and BC Renal.
- Partners on the execution, development, expansion, and reporting pertaining to related initiatives with program, project or advisory committees or working groups as appropriate and required. Coordinates all related communications, office reports, maintains webpages, POD pages and coordinates patient and family/supporter advisories, focus groups and related committees as appropriate and required.
- In consultation with the Provincial Lead, Quality and Evaluation, identifies patient and family/supporter care partner feedback themes and informs service improvement opportunities.
- Advises program leadership on the development and management of inclusive and meaningful patient and family/supporter engagement activities and grows patient/family/supporter networks in consultation with the patient experience teams and other associated network partners.
- Participates in other related leadership and co-design activities specific to the unique program areas.
What you bringQualifications
- A level of education, training, and experience that may include administration coordination, project management, volunteer administration, post-secondary education, or the equivalence to a post-secondary degree, plus 5 years’ recent related experience with volunteer and/or project coordination in health care. Lived health care experience or knowledge of complex health care systems and communities, or experience in coordinating patient and family/supporter engagement and related system is an asset. A critical thinker, innovative and self-directed with the ability to collaborate. Has respect for and belief in the value of patient/family/supporter as essential partners of the health care team. A clear understanding of the connection between engagement, patient safety, improved experience and patient outcomes. Active connectivity with related community services and partners.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with an inter-professional care team (including patients and families), other staff members, and members of the community; confidence to speak articulately to diverse groups of health care professionals; exercise discretion; and foster trust from patients, families and health care professionals. Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, strategic, flexible, organized and highly motivated. Ability to operate related equipment and applicable software. Demonstrated ability to model and support full team commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism.

Job Type: Regular, Full-TimeSalary Range: $67,861 – $97,550 /year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
