This is a fantastic opportunity to join an experienced team who are passionate about patient safety and working with our system partners to encourage learning and sharing for the benefit of the population of BNSSG. The team are focused on supporting patient safety learning and quality improvement in a way that recognises and responds to the evidence that population groups experience patient safety events and harm unequally.The post holder will be required to work from 100 Temple Street, Bristol for 2 days per week pro rata, i.e. approximately 40% of their working hours. If you are unable to meet this requirement, please reconsider your application.”Secondments will be considered.Main duties of the jobThe Patient Safety Specialist will work to support the Quality team in ensuring that the people of Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) experience the best possible quality and safety of services, clinical outcomes and patient experience wherever they interface with health and care providers. The post holder will provide expert support to the organisation and system, and as per statutory requirements will have direct access to the executive team, facilitating the escalation of patient safety issues or concerns.   • Health or social care professional registered with a nationally recognised regulatory body, e.g. Nursing and Midwifery Council, Health and Care Professions Council, Social Work England.
  • Educated to master’s level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
  • Extensive knowledge of specialist areas, i.e. review of management of serious incidents and other patient safety frameworks, acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master’s level equivalent.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies.
  • Experience of strategy development.
  • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development.
  • Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications of this on engagement.
  • Should have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health, NHSE, the ICB and individual provider organisations.
  • Member of relevant professional body.

Desirable

  • NHSE Clinical Safety Officer training as required for ICBs
