Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Payroll Accounting Analyst to join our dynamic Payroll Services, Talent Programs team in our People, Culture and Performance division.The Payroll Services team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by overseeing the payroll process and partnering with internal teams to enhance the employee experience and ensure everyone is paid accurately and on time.In this role, you will be responsible for providing the core accounting functions of Canadian Blood Services relating to employee remuneration. You will be responsible for month-end accounting, fiscal-year end working papers, budget to actual analysis, and the calendar year-end reconciliation of T4’s. You will prepare 3rd party remittances, file provincial reports for health taxes and WCB premiums, and provide financial data to auditors. You will prepare and analyze financial information relating to payroll to provide accurate and useful information to management for review and decision making. You will also participate in the ongoing development, implementation, and maintenance of internal procedures.Formula for success
- You will be responsible for monitoring and reconciling general ledger accounts related to payroll expenses and liabilities.
- Using your excellent organizational skills, you will calculate, prepare, and reconcile the payroll accruals for salaries and benefits, performance bonuses, retro pay, vacation, pay in lieu, banked statutory holidays, overtime, and lump sum entitlements.
- Drawing on your knowledge and expertise, you will develop costing tools for Finance Managers and Employee Relations to use in union negotiations.
- You will be responsible for managing the coordination and posting of the severance and grievance accruals.
- Utilizing your attention to detail and analytical skills, you will prepare statistical reports for 3rd parties and internal stakeholders, such as Business Partners, Managers, Employee Relations, and Finance.
- Using your excellent coordination skills, you will be responsible for gathering and posting statistics key figures for regular labour hours, blood collection hours and costs.
- You will create, review, and post journal entries.
- Harnessing your ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively across diverse teams, you will liaise with Employee Relations and accurately update TM1 for the purposes of calculating accrued retro pay related to expired collective agreements.
- Leveraging your coordination and prioritization skills, you will gather data, provide budget to actual analysis, prepare working papers and additional reports required for the annual financial audit.
- Looking at your continuous improvement mindset, you will prepare, submit and test Request For Changes (RFCs) for new SAP configuration features and enhancements pertaining to Payroll.
- You will be expected to ensure the new wage types are mapped correctly to the general ledger and when applicable, are mapped to a 3rd party vendor and the monthly accruals calculation.
- Drawing on your continuous growth mindset, you will identify continuous improvement opportunities to increase efficiency, quality, and value to Payroll Services and internal clients, through changes in processes, policy, or use of technology. Provide input into the development, enhancement, and redesign of processes.
- Performs other related duties, participates in, or leads special projects in Payroll Services.
Desired education and skills
- Completion of a post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution is a requirement.
- A minimum of 6 years of related payroll and/or payroll accounting experience is required.
- Understanding and experience in the use of SAP (or an equivalent ERP application) is required.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) from the National Payroll Institute will be considered a definite asset.
- High level of proficiency with spreadsheets is expected.
- Experience with Excel, Word, SAP, and accounting applications.
- Effective communication skills in both written and verbal.

- Depending on where you are located, you may be required to travel to Ottawa annually for team meetings.
