Job description

The Payroll Manager, reporting to the Director of Finance, is responsible for the processing of staff payroll and allowances. He/She will also prepare payroll related returns.Responsibilities

  • Provide direct management, support and coaching to the Payroll team
  • Oversee, prepare and execute full cycle payrolls including year-end reporting and T4s
  • Identify, recommend and update Payroll policies and procedure documentation
  • Review associate records with supporting documentation for new hires, current associates and terminated associates as pertains to payroll
  • Ensure payroll for all hourly paid and salaried staff is processed accurately and in a timely manner using the time and attendance and payroll systems (CeleriTime & Great Plains) in accordance with payroll policies and procedures
  • Liaise with HR Department on Benefit Plan Management
  • Process and reconcile benefits, expenses and allowances
  • Process and reconcile remittances such as source deductions and RRSPs/NRSPs/TFSAs
  • Keep a record of all vacation entitlements and usage, outstanding lieu time and sick days taken
  • Compile reports for executive team for daily and bi-weekly labor costs
  • Liaise with accounting team to reconcile bank accounts and GL account entries
  • Maintain records in compliance with current legal requirements
  • Maintain and manage payroll-related legal and regulatory compliances
  • Create and maintain payroll calculation codes and audit for compliance
  • Ensure strict confidentiality is upheld regarding individuals pay related information at all times
  • Attend any training that is required and approved by Management
  • To look out for the safety of yourself, co-workers and to follow all Health and Safety requirements in the workplace
  • Any other duties as required by Management

Qualifications

  • 5+ years Alberta payroll experience with 2+ years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Canadian Payroll Association Payroll Compliance Professional certification is a requirement
  • Completion of or working towards Canadian Payroll Association Payroll Leadership Certification
  • Post-secondary education business administration or related field
  • Previous experience in payroll management preferred
  • Active membership with the Canadian Payroll Association
  • Experience with Great Plains software is an asset.
  • Time and attendance program experience
  • Proficient user of MS Office applications
  • Experience within a complex payroll environment, specifically the hospitality or gaming industry an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to think critically and multitask in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
  • Self-starter comfortable working both in a team environment and independently
  • Detail oriented and a keen learner

The Payroll Manager will work in an office environment. All necessary tools to successfully carry out this role will be provided. This position is salaried; the hours of work will be based around 40 hours per week, 5 days out of 7. Overtime may be required during high demand business periods.WE OFFER
