As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting the payroll function in administering the payroll process and responding to payroll and benefits inquiries, while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality. This role also includes supporting the HR function with new hire onboarding and keeping HR files up to date.PAYROLL DUTIESAdminister with hourly and salaried payrollMaintain and update employee information, such as record of employee attendance, leave, and overtime to calculate pay and benefit entitlements, in Canadian currencies, using manual or computerized systemsPrepare and verify statements of earnings for employees, indicating gross and net salaries and deductions such as taxes, garnishments, and insurance and pension plansPrepare, verify, and process all employee payroll related payments, including regular pay, benefit payments, and special payments such as bonuses and vacation payComplete, verify, and process forms and documentation for administration of benefits such as pension plans, leaves, share savings, employment, and medical insuranceComplete, verify, and process forms and supporting documents, such as year-end tax statements, pension, Records of Employment and other statementsProvide information on payroll matters and benefit plansCompile, review, and monitor statistical reports, statements, and summaries related to pay and benefits accountsPrepare and balance period-end reports and reconcile issued payrolls to bank statementsIdentify and resolve payroll discrepanciesMay be responsible for the development or implementation of payroll policies, procedures, and processesAssembling reports of company earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability payments, and non-taxable wagesTEAMWORK AND COLLABORATIONWorking with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure benefits and payroll services are deliveredPrimary liaison with Branch Managers, Employees, and Human ResourcesPROBLEM SOLVINGBe able to recommend creative solutions to various issues that may arise.GENERALDevelop a working understanding of the company’s customers and suppliers and maintain a professional image within all interactions.Work with other departments as required, conveying a professional corporate image that represents the values of Gerrie Electric.Meet and exceed set objectives and department goals and ensure timely completion of all extra tasks as assigned.PERSONAL DEVELOPMENTParticipate in conferences, seminars, and other educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintain and participate in professional networks to enhance your knowledge and skills.Participates on committees and special projects as requested.COMMUNICATIONCommunicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.QUALITYUnderstands and adhere to ISO policies and procedures.What you bring to the tablePost-secondary education in a related field, 2-3 years of payroll & benefits experienceAdvanced Excel experiencePayroll experience with ADP Workforce Now is an assetHigh precision and attention to detailExcellent time management and organizational skillsMust be personable and possess a good work ethicExceptional communication skills both written and verbalWorking knowledge of ESA is preferredAbility to effectively manage confidential informationDon’t have all of these qualifications?
