Role: PE TeacherLocation: OkehamptonContract: Full time, permanentSalary: Teacher Pay Scale + SEN AllowanceLong-Term Teachers have a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference at a lovely SEMH special school located in Okehampton. Providing high-quality education and support to students aged 4 – 16, our school is seeking to appoint an experienced PE teacher to join their team.About the school:The students you will be supporting all have needs associated with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges. Many of the students also have additional needs such as autism, ADHD, attachment issues and speech and language difficulties. Given these challenges, strong behaviour management skills, patience and resilience are crucial for this role.About the role:

  • Plan and deliver engaging PE lessons tailored to students’ individual needs ensuring activities are inclusive and enjoyable for all abilities
  • Promote physical health, teamwork and emotional wellbeing through sports and structured activities
  • Provide targeted support, ensuring students remain motivated and engaged – class sizes are very small (between 4 – 6), allowing you to build meaningful relationships with students
  • Foster a safe and supportive environment during lessons, helping students develop confidence, social skills and resilience
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and other staff to support students’ wider educational goals, including integrating strategies from their EHCPs
  • Manage equipment and resources to ensure a safe and organised PE department
  • Implement behaviour management strategies, building trusting relationships to support students overcoming barriers to participation and learning

Who we’re looking for:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualifications. Applications from ECTs are welcome
  • Experience working with students with SEN, particularly those with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours would be highly advantageous
  • A strong understanding of inclusive physical education practices and an ability to adapt activities to meet a range of needs
  • A patient, compassionate and resilient professional with strong behaviour management skills
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
  • An organised, reliable and enthusiastic individual
