Description and RequirementsWork Location: RemotePosition Type: Contract until December 31, 2024 (high possibility of conversion)Location: CanadaCompensation Range: $33/hr – $45/hrOur client, a driving force in the media industry, is seeking a “Pension Administrator.”The position will play a key role in leading all pension administration activities within a non-union and union environment and be a part of a very dynamic and collaborative Total Rewards team.Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for program management of multiple Defined Contribution (DC), Defined Benefit (DB) plans, as well as the Group RRSP and Employee Share Purchase Plan (ESPP)
  • Primary point of contact for inquiries from members of the pension plans directing them to correct third-party administrators or providing high quality answers explaining complex information in a succinct and easy to understand style as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with People Team Business Partners, Labour Relations and Payroll to ensure pension members receive reliable, timely and high-level customer service from pension providers in compliance with legislative and industry standards.
  • Primary contact for pension plan consultants, actuaries, trustees, third party administrators and other service providers, with the support of their manager.
  • Performs monthly pension administration audits, including Excel eligibility analysis on enrollment verification, termination notifications and payroll updates, ensuring a high level of data integrity and issues prevention, while working with Total Rewards team and consultants to accurately manage member pension plan data.
  • Subject matter expert for employee pension inquiries including application of pension plan provisions and legislation for eligibility, terminations, and leaves of absence.
  • Supports senior management with Retirement Council activities as assigned, ensuring rigorous recordkeeping of all Retirement Council materials.
  • Coordinates retirement education activities, working with pension consultants and Internal Communications to update and roll out plan member communications and training initiatives.
  • Oversees pension plan member content on company intranet and third-party administrator sites collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to do so.
  • Works closely with consultants overseeing pension plan accounting to ensure tight and accurate record keeping of pension budget, pension expenses and fees tracking to ensure services provided as agreed to, processing invoices for payment.
  • Prepares pension analysis and plan statistics as required.
  • Leads the annual Pension Adjustments (PAs) analysis process with pension consultants and the Payroll team to ensure accurate calculations are reported on member’s T4 taxation forms.
  • Collaborates with pension consultants to prepare and file regulatory requirements, such as Contribution Planners and Annual Information Returns (AIRs).
  • Ensures rigorous recordkeeping of plan member digital (Dayforce HCM) and physical pension records.
  • Keeps abreast of legislative changes and trends with respect to retirement and investment programs.

Qualifications:

  • Has understanding of Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC) pension plan legislation and administration.
  • Takes ownership of pension activities, meeting timelines and deliverables.
  • Possesses exceptional interpersonal, communication and business writing skills with the ability to communicate information professionally, clearly, and simply.
  • Works collaboratively with parties at all levels to achieve the goals, find alternative solutions, and seeks expert advice where warranted.
  • Displays highly developed prioritization, time management, and multi-tasking skills, while working well under pressure.
  • Possesses strong analytical, problem solving, critical thinking and resolution skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain high attention to detail for proofreading and auditing.
  • Previous experience with HRIS benefits modules set up and maintenance of an asset.
  • Displays strong technical skills with advanced Excel experience for performing data analysis (e.g. vlookup, IF statements, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Possesses sound technical capabilities using Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Attainment or working towards Certified Benefits Specialist (CEBS) and/or Retirement Plans Associate (RPA) designations an asset.
