Together we are more than 5,000 dedicated faculty, librarians and staff supporting the University of Victoria’s diverse academic programs, world-class research and commitment to civic engagement.The salary range for this position is:Recruitment range: $72,242- $79,650 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.Performance range: starting salary to max of $93,951 is available through annual performance increases.Job SummaryAs part of Financial Planning and Operations, the Financial Reporting department prepares all internal management reporting and all external compliance financial reporting for the University of Victoria and its consolidated entities. The department is responsible for the production and delivery of reliable, relevant, accurate and timely financial statements, and reports for both internal management purposes and external users.Reporting to the Pensions Financial Accountant, this position plays a key role in maintaining the financial, investment and accounting records for the university’s three pension plans (defined benefit, defined contribution and hybrid).Key accountabilities for this role include:
- Preparing monthly journal entries and working papers for pension plan transactions.
- Performing monthly investment return calculation and allocation for each pension plan.
- Reconciling bank accounts, benefits, and fund assets to identify and correct errors.
- Working with senior team members to prepare and analyze financial statements.
- Participation in cash flow projections, processing payments and fund transfers, and facilitating monthly fund rebalancing.
- Coordination of statutory and other compliance processes
- Participation in special projects
- Other duties of similar scope
This position applies Canadian accounting standards for pension plans and other Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as applicable.Job RequirementsThis position requires an undergraduate degree and the pre-requisites towards and accounting designation (CPA) with an expectation that the designation will be completed within a reasonable time-frame (3-4 years) plus
- Three years of pre-designation, professional accounting experience and applied knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles with emphasis on knowledge of Canadian accounting standards for pension plans and the financial reporting provisions of Section 47 Pension Benefits Standards Regulation (PBSR)
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.In addition, this position requires:

- Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with all stakeholders

- Understanding of investment accounting concepts, calculations, and reporting
