The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.Position OverviewUnder the direction of the Manager of Patient Care:

  • Provides ordering and inventory support to all specialty service areas of the Adult Operating Room.
  • Responsible for ordering, signing authority, receiving, inventory control and education of users for all non-stocks including all prosthetics and implants.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Clinical Resource Nurses and suppliers.
  • Reviews and confirms the monthly budget expenditure statement received from Finance and is delegated by the Clinical Resource Nurse in variance reporting of same.
  • Assists in providing technical guidance for orientation to surgical specialties and Medical Device Reprocessing staff.

Experience

  • Three years’ experience in Health Care Supply Management (preferably in an operating room) including inventory control and supply acquisition required.
  • Sterile Processing experience required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Sterile Processing Technician program required.
  • Successful completion of courses in anatomy and physiology at the university or college (e.g. Red River College) level required.
  • An Operating Room Technician course would be a strong asset.
  • Medical terminology and knowledge of Operating Room (OR) supplies required.

Certification/Licensure/RegistrationNot ApplicableQualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) required.
  • Must have an ability to understand and communicate effectively in English, both oral and in written.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • Strong problem-solving skills essential.
  • Must be able to deal effectively with Physicians, Nurses, Medical Device Reprocessing personnel and OR equipment vendors.
  • Required to act independently with an extremely high degree of accuracy and speed in carrying out specific requests for information from OR staff.

Physical Requirements

  • Position requires lifting and bending when transferring stock from one area to another and from floor to shelving.
  • Working conditions are fast-paced and in a highly stressful environment.
