JOB SUMMARY:Under the general supervision of the Systems Director of Pharmacy and direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist and indirect supervision by the Retail Pharmacy Operations Coordinator, the non-certified Level I pharmacy technician performs a variety of duties essential to the purchasing, preparation, distribution and charging of prescriptions. Must be able to perform functions related to prescription interpretation, order entry, dispensation, packaging, labeling, billing and inventory. Adheres to 340b policies. Must be able to perform cash and charge transactions. Must be registered as a pharmacy technician with the KY Board of Pharmacy prior to hire date. Non-certified Level I pharmacy technicians are hired with the expectation they achieve certification (CPHT) credential within 12 months of hire and be moved to the certified technician job description. Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:Schedule includes varied shifts per assignment 7 days/week. Must be attentive to detail. Stress from deadlines strict regulations, and multi-tasking. Regular moving of supplies/equipment up to 25 pounds. Involves the handling, preparation, and disposal of hazardous medications that could pose reproductive risks to those of child bearing age. The tasks of this job do not involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but employment may require performing supplemental tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Face masks and other PPE are required for this position.If under age 18 (minimum age 16 to be registered with KY BOP) the Associate is restricted to the following: * May work six (6) hours a day on a school day; eight (8) hours a day on a non-school day up to thirty (30) hours total in a school week. If minors want to work more than (30) hours per week, please see the Certificate of Satisfactory Academic Standing Form and the Parent/Guardian statement of consent form.
- May work between the hours of 6:00 am and 10:30 pm preceding a school day and between the hours of 6:00 am and 1:00 am preceding a non-school day during a school week.
- No working hours restrictions apply in weeks when school is not in session.
CONTACTS WITH OTHERS:In addition to working with other Pharmacy Associates, will interact regularly with nursing Associates, directors, physicians, patients, other clinical and ancillary hospital staff, clinic staff, and outside vendors.EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:Typing skills and computer experience required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR EQUIVALENTS:Education: High school students with 3.0 GPA enrolled in a pharmacy technician training program or with career interest in pharmacy if other conditions met.High School graduate or equivalent are preferred. Enrollment orCompletion of Pharmacy Tech training required or Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in applicable Health Science Program is preferred.Experience:Basic algebra skills required.Cashier, medical related training or order fulfillment work experience is helpful.Pharmacy or medication related work experience is preferred.LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS:KY Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration required. Driver’s license required for home deliveries using company vehicle.
