Are you passionate about photography?
We are looking for a Picture Editor to join the PA Photos Team as part of the Sports Picture Desk and be a crucial part of the agency’s output.
Who we are
PA Media is the UK’s national news agency, supplying 24/7 journalism to every newsroom in the country. It sits at the heart of the PA Media Group which is now a portfolio of diversified news and information companies encompassing a large data division, the picture agency Alamy and the streaming service Stream AMG, among others.
The role
You will select, edit and add metadata to images produced by staff, freelance and third-party photographers, supplying PA Media customers, digital platforms and other partners. You will have responsibility to ensure the highest standards of the photographic output of the PA Media live wire service are maintained. The role involves weekend and daytime/evening work depending on level of events on.
We have offices in Nottingham and London to work from, but this role can also be remote in the UK.
What you’ll be doing
- Live editing and transmission of pictures from sports events, carried out remotely, with occasional assistance of the news and entertainment picture operation.
- Selecting suitable images from a broader shoot, applying the most applicable crop and corrections to each image.
- Accurate captioning of images.
- Enhanced meta-data in line with agreed IPTC standards set.
- Maintaining effective communication channels between editorial and photo colleagues in London, Nottingham and Howden to ensure optimal output of content to align with breaking stories.
- Monitoring stories to ensure all relevant stories are illustrated.
- Remote edit photography supported from all events covered by a PA staff photographer or freelance photographer working on behalf of the group.
- Successful delivery of images to the PA Wire, PA Images website, subscription, contract customers and third parties (where applicable) – within an agreed timeframe.
What you’ll need
- A keen interest in sport, photography, and the daily news agenda
- A clear understanding of the Editors’ Code of Conduct.
- Excellent written English – a large part of what the role entails involves writing captions. Attention to detail and good grammar are essential.
- Professional Adobe Photoshop qualification or evidence of use in previous employment.
- Experience using Photo Mechanic and/or other image metadata and transmission software.
- An awareness of the diverse needs of the PA’s customers and be highly focused on meeting and surpassing them
