Offer Description
Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology
A post-doctoral position is available at the Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
Project description

Fungal biocontrol agents hold great promise for replacing chemical pesticides in future food production but is yet to reach its full potential due to associated challenges including variation in biocontrol efficacy. Knowledge-based improvement of biocontrol efficacy requires an understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying the interaction between fungi and plants. Technological advances have enabled large-scale genome analyses of fungi and other organisms. This project will focus on comparative genomics of fungi used for biological control of diseases on agricultural crops. The work mainly involves population genomic and transcriptome analyses. Analyses of microbial community composition based on DNA markers may also be included.

About the work

We seek a motivated postdoctoral candidate to join our ongoing research on biological control of fungal plant pathogens. The postdoc is expected to mainly perform comparative genomics analyses of fungi, and transcriptomic analyses of RNA-seq data. Analyses of microbial community composition based on DNA markers may also be included.

Your profile

The candidate should have a PhD degree in biology, bioinformatics, genetics or similar. As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most. A proven experience of bioinformatic skills in analysing and managing large sequencing datasets is highly recommended. Previous experience from research in fungal-fungal and plant-microbe interactions will be considered as a merit. Good knowledge of English in both speaking and writing is a prerequisite. Candidates should also have an ability to initiate, plan, and to work in team and independently.

About us

The department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology undertakes fundamental and applied research focused on interactions involving plants, pathogenic, symbiotic and saprotrophic fungi and other microorganisms and their role in forest and agricultural systems. The department offers a creative and stimulating international environment and is part of the Uppsala BioCenter at SLU.
