The Beirne B. Carter Center for Immunology Research at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Associate to perform sophisticated experimental research in the immune regulation of lung injury, recovery and chronic disease development following infection. The qualified candidate should have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Immunology, Virology, Lung Biology or a related field. Candidates are expected to have intensive experiences in small animal procedures, flow cytometry, molecular biology and immune cell purification and culture etc. Strong time management and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are required.
The incumbent will participate in a multiplicity of relevant lab projects and in writing study reports for the study sponsors, papers, and grant applications and is expected to develop research programs as time permits. The incumbent will also be expected to attend and participate in laboratory meetings and CIC-related seminars, as well as work with graduate students, technicians, fellows and collaborators in the laboratories involved in the project.
Job responsibilities include:
• Full-time research or scholarship at the University
• Preparatory for a full-time academic or research career
• Supervised by a senior scholar; and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Doctoral degree at the time of hire.
Experience: Experience in molecular biology, microscopy, cellular immunology, murine models of disease, and human samples is preferred.
Physical demands: This job involves extensive bench, animal work and use of desktop/laptop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
This is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. This position will sponsor applicants for work visas. This position is located in Charlottesville, Virginia. The position will remain open until filled.
