About the opportunity
Founded in 1930, Sydney School of Public Health is Australia’s first and leading school of public health. We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow with a strong interest musculoskeletal health management particularly, low back pain management.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on research that has national and international scope assisting Dr Gustavo Machado and his team in their vision to improve the management of lower back pain in emergency department settings through a diverse, multidisciplinary program of research.
Your key responsibilities will be to:

develop and refine research skills and independent research under the supervision of more senior academic staff within the School/Faculty (with an increasing degree of autonomy)

maintain quality, standards and excellence in all research activities and outputs
-
assist with clinical trial research of low back pain
-
analyse quantitative research data
-
undertake adhoc administrative duties as required by the team
-
develop research collaborations which will ultimately result in knowledge or technology transfer leading to commercialisation, improved policy or practice and/or enhancements to industry, the profession or the community
About you
-
doctorate or PhD (or working towards PhD) – In a relevant field e.g. Public Health or Health Science or an equivalent combination of training and experience
-
a strong interest and clinical research experience in low back pain (not necessarily emergency department focussed) is highly desirable
-
a developing research profile evidenced by original, high-quality and independent research in the discipline or area of expertise
-
experienced with statistical software- STATA or R (desirable)
-
a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders
-
demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively across a range of media and forums
-
contributes expertise and knowledge to forums of public debate, where appropriate and consistent with University policy.
