Our Chalk River location is looking for a Power Systems Analyst to support our Computational Techniques Branch! In this role, you would be part of the Operations Research Section, performing research and analysis to study the economics, reliability, effectiveness, and efficiency of nuclear-enabled clean energy systems. You will provide input on power systems to inform R&D of integrated energy systems, including modelling, simulation, feasibility studies, and laboratory experiments. - Collaborating with and eventually leading a team of technical experts to perform analyses on clean energy systems, assessing the implications of various decisions at a system level. Involved in techno-economic analyses to demonstrate the cost-effectiveness of the system.
- Assessing economics, reliability, effectiveness, efficiency, and social and political implications related to various nuclear technologies/applications.
- Contributing to national and international collaborations related to nuclear-enabled clean energy systems.
- Preparing proposals for Federal Nuclear Science and Technology and Commercial Projects.
- Monitoring and managing project progress and budget.
- Preparing reports and manuscripts for publications based on the research conducted.
- Where applicable, providing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the Manager and Customers.
- Working on any other projects undertaken by the Operations Research Section, as directed by the Section Head and Branch Manager.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Graduate degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering from a university or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
- Experience
- Have at least 2 years of experience in the field of Electric Power Engineering with an established publication history.
- Experience in the development and/or use of computer-based models or simulation software in one of the technical areas
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work individually or as a member of a team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed industry/academic journals.
- General knowledge of the nuclear industry and nuclear power systems.
- Ability to apply one or more technical specialties to support nuclear science and technology research and development activities.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Location:
CNL works with employees across our Canadian locations to enable remote work when possible. This role requires regular work at CNL’s Chalk River Laboratory site while also permitting the employee to spend the majority of their time working remotely, should they so desire. CNL employees who choose to work remotely the majority of the time are provided with the equipment required to be successful at their remote workplace (laptop, chair, monitor, etc.); however, they are not provided a dedicated onsite office.
