The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral and independent international humanitarian organisation, which assists and protects victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence. The ICRC is currently looking for staff for its support operations in Iraq.

Job Title: Premises Maintenance Officer

Level: B1

Duty Station: Iraq – Baghdad Office

Reports to: Premises Maintenance Supervisor 

Duration of Contract: 12 Month fixed-term contract with the possibility of renewal to an open-ended contract. For internal candidates, this contract may be open-ended based on your existing contract status.

Objective:

 

The Premises Maintenance Officer ensures proper maintenance of the ICRC premises and equipment, ensuring their safety and functionality. Responsibilities include excavation, backfilling, finishing works, and repairs in plumbing, electricity, air conditioning, carpentry, welding, and passive security. The role focuses on minimizing downtime, maintaining structural integrity, and ensuring efficient operations by implementing preventive maintenance plans and responding to repair needs. Ultimately, this role supports a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment for all occupants.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

Civil works include all tasks related to constructing infrastructure and non-mechanical or electrical buildings, typically involving:

 

  • Excavation and Backfilling Works: Excavation for foundation construction, backfilling, and ground levelling.
  • Finishing Works: Plastering, painting, tiling and ceramic works, false ceilings.

 

May be required to perform or oversee additional maintenance tasks as needed:   

                                                                                                                                                                                                             

  • Plumbing: Maintain and performs repairs to water systems in the delegation (water tanks, pumps, pipes, hoses, toilets, etc.)
  • Planning and maintenance of passive security devices (strong doors, ladders, window protection)
  • Electricity: Maintain and perform repairs on electricity systems in the delegation (electrical devices, short circuits, fuses, lamps, cables, etc.)
  • Air Conditioning: Maintain and perform repairs on A/C systems in the delegation (compressors, pipes, cleaning, hoses, gas filling, etc.)
  • Carpentry: Maintain and performrepairs on carpentry in the delegation (doors, locks, desks, chairs, beds, etc.)
  • Welding: Maintain and perform repairs on metal works in the delegation (strong doors, windows, ladders, iron bases, etc.)
  • Basic gardening work

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • Technical vocational training/school or professional diploma.
  • 2 – 3 years’ work experience in similar function.
  • Fluent in Arabic, basic knowledge of spoken English.
  • Preferred sound knowledge of computers.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within a team.
