Job description
We are looking for a suitably qualified and highly experienced Hydrogeologist to join RSK Geosciences. The role involves acting as Technical Lead on hydrogeology, support the QRA Group and to lead or oversee our work on challenging groundwater risk assessment and hydrogeology related projects. Working alongside an experienced team of risk assessors and hydrogeologists located across the UK, you will provide technical leadership on a wide variety of multidisciplinary geo-environmental and geotechnical projects from desk-based studies through to complex site investigations and hydrogeological risk assessment for the development/ regeneration, energy, infrastructure, environmental permitting and sites under Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act.The ideal candidate will have a background in hydrogeological risk assessment, including undertaking numerical contaminant fate and transport modelling. Experience in environmental permitting, design of pump tests, dewatering operations, groundwater remediation, hydrogeological modelling, surface water management, and landfill hydrogeological appraisal would be an advantage.Responsibilities:
- Providing technical leadership in relation to RSK Geosciences hydrogeological capabilities.
- Undertaking technical review of interpretative geo-environmental assessment, DQRA and other hydrogeology-related reports.
- Designing, managing and leading on geo-environmental projects, including complex Tier 2 site investigation phases including generic quantitative risk assessment (GQRA) and Tier 3 detailed quantitative risk assessment (DQRA), with the production of high quality interpretive reports, in line with national standards, codes of practice, and RSK procedures.
- Completion of DQRAs for controlled waters using environmental simulation packages including remedial targets methodology (RTM), ConSim, LandSim, and RBCA.
- Management or direction of groundwater studies including design and implementation of groundwater monitoring programs and in-situ testing (e.g. permeability testing via slug tests and pumping tests, downhole geophysics, etc.), interpreting in-situ aquifer test data and completion of dewatering calculations.
- Be an active member of the QRA team by actively promoting and encouraging best practice within the brownfield land sector and mentoring junior risk assessors. This may include producing in-house technical documents, facilitating training courses, and presenting at internal and external conferences.
- Effectively communicating with clients (both external and within the wider RSK group) and colleagues to build strong working relationships with the aim of delivering to exceed client expectations, and contributing to a strong team ethic.
- Engagement with Regulators to achieve robust, sustainable and regulatory compliant solutions to our clients problems
- Managing projects to meet both commercial and technical requirements and working with technical and projects leads to deliver appropriate solutions wherever necessary
- Supporting business development and winning work through managing the preparation and review of technical/ quality aspects of tenders.
- Stewardship of health, safety and environment in accordance with company standards and contribute to sustainability goals.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A professional with demonstrable consultancy or regulatory experience in a senior role with a focus on groundwater/ hydrogeology issues.
- Awareness of the regulatory framework associated with land contamination, controlled waters/ water environment and hydrogeological risk assessments
- Significant and demonstrable experience of hydrogeological site characterisation and conceptualisation including development and refinement of conceptual site models; designing suitable investigations and monitoring well design; interpretation of hydrogeological field data; and undertaking GQRA for controlled waters.
- Demonstrable experience of undertaking numerical Tier 3 hydrogeological/ controlled wasters DQRA using environmental simulation packages (e.g. RTM, ConSim, LandSim, Modflow, RBCA, etc).
- Able to complete and technically review factual and interpretative hydrogeological and controlled waters assessments.
- Ability to undertake tiered hydrogeological risk assessment to support the application and/or surrender of environmental permits.
- Able to deliver projects and work within a multi-disciplinary consultancy.
- Able to write proposals that are both technically sound and commercially accurate with close attention to detail.
- Provide effective technical leadership and mentoring skills to junior staff.
- Strong track record in managing time and resources effectively and within budget.
- Computer literate and skilled with Microsoft Office applications, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Full UK driving licence.
Qualifications/ Certification:
- BSc degree level qualified in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering or a related subject
- MSc in Hydrogeology or related subject preferred.
- Chartered status with a relevant professional body e.g. Geological Society, IES, CIWEM
- Highly desirable, or actively working towards, becoming a SiLC and Suitably Qualified Person (SQP) or accredited risk assessor (ASoBRA) for controlled waters.
